The venue is located on camp grounds in fields to the north west of the village of Wacken which is 46 miles north west of the city of Hamburg.
The festival has been held here since 1990 and is one of the largest rock festivals in the world and held over four days from 29th July to 1st August.
Like other festivals in Europe it has two stages joined together with staggered show times.
Def Leppard headline the Harder stage with friends Europe playing before them and ex-Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth.
