The venue is located in the city centre and stands beside the Kansas River.

It was opened in September 1974 as Kemper Arena (full name Kemper Memorial Arena).

In 2017 it was briefly named as Mosaic Arena and after reverting back to the original name in 2018 it is now known as Hy-Vee Arena.

The venue suffered a roof collapse in June 1979 due to high winds.

The cover of 'Travellin' Band' by Creedence Clearwater Revival was now part of the set.
