- Location / Nuremberg/Nurnberg, West Germany
- Venue / Zeppelin Field
- Event / Monsters Of Rock
The first show by the band in this city since October 1983 on the Pyromania tour.
The first time at this venue.
The venue is located to the South East of the city centre and now has the ARENA Nuremberg and 50,000 capacity Max-Morlock-Stadion next to it.
It was opened in and was once one of the Nazi parties main rally sites from the 1930/40s.
The main stands in the pic above are where the leaders would stand with the rest of the 'people' parading on the fields where the fans and the stage are seen.
Pictured in 1995 on the middle of the 'Vault' CD booklet as well as in the 1987 UK Hysteria tour programme.
Since 2004 the Rock Im Park festival takes place at this venue which runs alongside the Rock Am Ring festival held at the Nurburgring.
Incorrect information was posted online saying another MOR show had taken place at MTK Stadium in Budapest, Hungary on 26th or 27th August with Scorpions, Ozzy, MSG, Bon Jovi and Warlock only.
In actual fact Scorpions played a headline show at MTK Stadium in Budapest, Hungary on 27th August.
They also played two other solo shows in Spain on 3rd Sep (Barcelona) and 5th Sep (Madrid) after the Mannheim show.
All three shows were Scorpions headline dates with MSG as support and none of the other bands.
Show Story - From Animal Instinct
"Compared to that the next Leppard show was a bit anti-climactic. The next-to-last stop on the tour, the Zeppelinfield in Nuremburg, West Germany where Adolf Hitler once held outdoor Nazi rallies, was standard Leppard procedure."
"An hour in the afternoon sun, knock 'em dead with the hits. Sav and Joe were in less than peak physical condition - Sav with food poisoning, Joe with a sore throat - but Joe was excellently attended by Ozzy Osbourne, who gave Joe some honey in a hot lemon drink half an hour before show time."
An audience recorded video also exists. Of average quality and in black and white.
It starts with clips from 'Rock! Rock!' and shows various clips from 'Another Hit And Run' where Joe goes to one side of the stage to get the crowd going on the extended section.
'Let It Go', 'Rock Of Ages' (where a female fan jumps onstage, chases Joe, when he realises she's not a nutter he lets her stand next to him as he sings before she runs off again).
A decent quality audience recording also exists from this show.
