JOE ELLIOTT Says DEF LEPPARD Hope To Continue Playing Big Stadium/Arena Shows

Def Leppard 2019. By Chele Drappel

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott was interviewed last month by Chicago radio and the full audio is available.

Joe spoke to The Chad Taylor Show on 95KGGO radio to promote the new Down 'n' Outz This Is How We Roll album.

Joe talked about the 2018 Journey tour, future Def Leppard stadium/arena tours, Band Energy, Two Diamond Albums, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Down 'n' Outz This Is How We Roll album, Boys Don't Cry, 2020 Down 'n' Outz Tour and PSSOM.

Joe said the band hope to continue playing in stadiums and large arenas in a possible reference to what is about to be announced (early next week?...) for 2020.

He also commented again on the RRHOF Induction and Fan Vote.

Listen to the full 17 minute interview below.

Joe's (soon to be famous) daughter once again gets in on the action and can be heard in the background. From just after 1 minute onwards.

Tour Announcement Date?

When will the full tour schedule and details be announced?.

Well Billboard's article seems to indicate that it will be Tuesday based on the disclosure that Mötley Crüe had originally intended to have their announcements a week apart. And that it will now be announced "within days".

Monday 18th was the release of their 'Mötley Crüe Is Back' video on YouTube.

The Chad Taylor Show - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

2018 Tour With Journey

"Yeah that was a big tour for us you know. It was hopefully the start of something that we can carry on doing. You know we kind of step into these stadiums situations or into big arenas. Playing live is a very integral part of what we do these days. it's much more important than anything else at the moment in time."

"And it's why we all wanted to be in a band in the first place is to play in front of an audience. You know not for sitting around for years in a studio. That was just a byproduct of being in a band. But when you're a kid and you see somebody on TV or you go to your first concert you get the bug."

"That's what gives you the bug. It's not the thought of playing in a studio environment for the rest of your life. You've got these situations where you can play in front of a load of people. And you know you can be playing these songs for years but they still have a an energy to them because the audience is different all the time."

Two Diamond Albums

"We don't consider this a victory lap. We consider this, we're just an ongoing situation you know. There's more new music to come, there's more touring to come. What we've achieved has been amazing. Because we achieved hat we did with those diamond records it's given us the opportunity to keep playing them in front of an audience. You know, tour after tour after tour all over the world. Not just in say one country."

"So it is, you're blessed. It's a fantastic feeling to know that you've achieved that. And that you can kind of rely on it to be part of your life and to me it's not a burden. You know as I've often said about song writing. I can never understand the ones that don't want to play the hits. If you can't handle the responsibility of writing a hit then please don't write a hit you know. Give them to me I'll do it for ya, you know."

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

"I'll be honest it's great no with 20/20 hindsight and all that kind of thing. it was a wonderful night, it really was. When you think about there's only 330 artists in the Hall Of Fame out of what, probably a billion artists that's ever been since instruments were invented. It's a great club to be in along with The Stones and The Beatles and Aerosmith, Elvis, you know. All that kind of..Led Zeppelin etc etc etc."

"It's a wonderful thing to be in, but it was nothing that we ever aspired to be in, 'cause throughout the years. You know once we were made aware by people like yourself maybe telling me. It would have been 2005 was the first time that I got wind of the fact that we were eligible. Two Diamond Albums."

And then by 2007 and 2008 I got people going 'You know you've never been nominated in the three years you've been eligible'. And I go well OK, so we've not been acknowledged. And then people keep asking and it's like somebody prodding you in the chest. And you're like going well 'I don't care'. They don't want us obviously otherwise we'd have been nominated and it's this invisible committee that want the likes of the credible. What they consider credible bands compared to U2, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Beatles etc."

"I'm thinking they don't want Bon Jovi or Motley Crue or Def Leppard or any of those kind of bands. Commercially successful or commercially successful as far as they're concerned. This is why we just shunned it and pushed it to one side and then I think it was about five years ago or four years ago. Somebody actually said to me do you realise that there's a Fan Vote now. I'm lie no actually I didn't because I hadn't paid any attention to it for I can't remember how long"

"And he says yeah there's a Fan Vote and it's been and continues to be whoever wins the most votes is mostly or I think always been nominated. And then we'd not been nominated. So as soon as we'd heard that we were gonna be out into this Fan Vote. And apparently we just killed it you know. I think we were the most voted for .band of all time"

"So we had a feeling then that we were probably gonna get, you know, nominated. Well we were nominated we would actually be accepted and Inducted you know. And that's how it turned out to be. Soyou know once all that ball started rolling all of a sudden we're like going 'Oh this is great because it's actually the people that out us where we are in the first place that have put us in the Hall Of Fame. Not some invisible committee'."

"And that made us feel a lot more at home and comfortable with it. And then of course you start moving on tp the other side of it. It's like OK so we need to be inducted who do we get you know. And it just kind of made sense that we'd ask Brian who's been a friend of ours for for many many years. Now I'm talking of course of Brian May from Queen who, you know, as kids we grew up listening to Queen, Huge influence on Def Leppard anyway."

"But when we got to know him, because it turns out that come 1983 he became a huge fan of Def Leppard and played on stage with us at the LA Forum in '83. And me and Brian became very close friends after that and we've been tight for 30 odd years and I asked him if he'd do it and he was like of course."

"And then we managed to drag the likes of Ian Hunter and Phil Manzanera up on stage to do All The Young Dudes for the kind of...well it wasn't really the All Star Jam. But it was a nice way to finish the night off doing what I consider to be the all time best song of, you know, ever written. It was a nice wait to close the circle. So yeah we had a great night and then we had a lovely party afterwards where Stevie Nicks and all sorts of people turned up for that. And it was like this is a good way to go to bed, I like this."
