Def Leppard - Press Conference Transcript

Joe Elliott/2020 Tour

"Well it's hard to argue with, when you wake up and you think this is gonna be happening next summer. That it's stadiums again but more and bigger. And I think that the synchronicity that we're gonna have with, and Joan as well who's not here. But you just put those four names on a piece of paper and look at 'em whichever way round you look at it. It's like, it's a big statement really."

"And, you know, the '80s get mocked a lot and I think something like this is. Well yeah, but there is a lot of people that still think that the '80s is a mockable kind of decade. And we're about to prove that it's not I think because, it's last man standing to a point maybe, but we have survived you know."

"Whether we've gone away and come back. Or whether we've been constant, it's the music has been the thread that keeps brining everybody back again. And the music has lasted and there's an amazing audience out there that's never gone away for a lot of bands from that period. But we're very blessed that we're in a situation here where we can all go out together and it just gives it an almighty weight."

"We've always said before when we've gone out with big band one and one make three. But this is almost like, you know, one and one and one and one makes way more than four. You know it's just gonna be huge."

Joe Elliott/2020 Tour

"You just listen to the songs for what they are. I don't think that there's any need to kind of compare you, you know, generations that went before. Or generations that came after. You can sit and analyze it all you like. But at the end of the day if the songs are still getting played on the radio there's a reason for that. It's because they were good songs."

Joe Elliott/2020 Tour/More Possible Dates

"There’s 22 stadium shows, so it’s pretty much most major territories. And in fairness it seems to be growing and there’s more interest before it’s even gone on sale. So it may extend one way or another, even into the next year."

Phil Collen/Setlist/2020 Tour

"It's easy but we have to revolve it around. There's obviously like hot chestnuts that you have to play. You have to do your Photograph's, Love Bites, Hysteria, you know, Rock Of Ages, Pour Some Sugar On Me. So you have to do them and it's just filling the stuff around it. So we kind of revolve it around."

"And another thing I just want to say about the whole thing. This is three bands that are the same genre. This is the MTV generation when it kicked off. And all three bands, and Joan as well, were very prominent. So the fact that this has been 30 odd years waiting to happen. The fact that it's happening now is immense. I mean I'm really buzzed. I mean we all met up this morning. There's an energy already that's incredible."

Rick Savage/What can the fans expect on this one?

"I think, with all the acts that are gonna be performing, there's an energy there. There's a youthfulness that really in all honesty belies the combined ages of everyone. But you know what. It's about the songs as well, I mean we've touched on that earlier. You know it's just an evening of hit after hit after hit. That will be portrayed in an energetic way. It's not, you're not just gonna see the bands standing there playing the music perfectly. Just like it is on, you know, on some of the records. You're actually gonna experience something. Yeah I guarantee there will be mistakes. But they'll be mistakes 'cause probably somebody will be doing a triple somersault while trying to do a guitar solo and things like that. You know that's where we're at. We're not into just the songs for the sake of the songs. It's more actually performing for the person there on the evening. And that's what we wanna do."

Rick Savage/Headset/In The Round

"Well that's when we were playing in the centre of the arenas. And you're literally playing to the equivalent of four front rows. So you either had to just have a bunch of microphones everywhere or I opted for the old Britney Spears thing before Britney Spears."

Vivian Campbell/New Def Leppard Studio Album/New Music?

"Don't believe what you read on the Internet."

"Yeah I mean we're always, we're always writing songs. It's a question of when we make the time to actually record something. I think it would be wishful thinking that we'd have something new out before this tour though. Well I could be wrong."

Joe Elliott

"Never say never though. Never say never bud."

Vivian Campbell

"Joe knows best."

Joe Elliott/Live Album Of 2020 Tour/Sin City Residency DVD

"Us? We've just finished, literally just finished mixing the Vegas Residency show. Which is gonna come out first, first quarter, of next year or something."

"We record all the time. These days, you know, you don't have to bring in the Rolling Stones mobile and make sure that the red light's on don't get it wrong. We record every night on a laptop that's this big and if you get something great you've got it forever. So we're always recording everything we do."

"Would we put out another live album when we've kind of done about five and one studio record in the last six years?. Probably not, but never say never!."
