Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen has contributed to a new album by The Professionals and the release date has now been revealed.

The Professionals feature Phil's fellow Manraze member Paul Cook on drums alongside Paul Myers (bass) and Tom Spencer (guitars/Lead Vocals).

The band's second studio album 'What In The World' will be released on 27th October via Automation Records on CD, vinyl and as a download.

Phil contributes guitar to three songs alongside other guests who include Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Mick Jones (Clash), Marco Pirroni (Adam And The Ants), Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses) and Chris McCormack (3 Colors Red).

Phil revealed back in May that he has recorded a guest appearance for the new album.

The band originally formed in 1979 and spilt up only three years later.

The original line-up featured fellow Sex Pistol Steve Jones who also guests on the album along with Marco Pirroni (Adam and The Ants) and Billy Duffy (The Cult).

The band are currently taking pre-orders for the album via a Pledge Music campaign (see website links for details). Two live shows are also scheduled around the album release in Wolverhampton and London.

The Professionals - Press Release Quotes

THE PROFESSIONALS are back with their second album, 36 years after the first!

The band, originally formed by SEX PISTOLS Paul Cook and Steve Jones, were resurrected by Cook and first-album bassist and guitarist Paul Myers and Ray McVeigh in 2015. With Jones now domiciled in the US, his role as frontman was taken by Tom Spencer of THE YO-YOS and THE MEN THEY COULDN’T HANG. McVeigh ducked out last year.

What In The World features 10 new tracks produced by Dave Draper, with Cook and Spencer co-producing. With basic tracks recorded at Zak Starkey’s studio outside London and Tower Studio in Pershore, the album also features numerous contributions from various transatlantic guests, including Jones, Billy Duffy, Mick Jones, Marco Pirroni, Duff McKagan, DEF LEPPARD’s Phil Collen and Chris McCormack of 3 COLOURS RED who has also been playing live with the band.

“In the studio we put the songs down as a three piece but what was needed was a second guitarist’s mind, to come from another angle,” they say. “Cookie dusted off his punk rock address book and made a few calls. All the guests added their own unique magic.”

To celebrate the release, the band play a pair of shows at:

27th October 2017 - Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton, England.
28th October 2017 - The Garage, London, England.

“We’ve been adding a new track or two to live shows but can’t wait to try some of the other new songs. We’re buzzing about the album, and can’t wait to spread the buzz. Of course there’ll be old stuff played too. We don’t cover Pistols stuff (apart from Silly Thing) but as the gig’s 40 years to the day from Nevermind The Bollocks was released, we might just add a cover or two!”

What In The World is set for release on 27 October through Automaton Records on CD, vinyl and download and is available to pre-order here.

The Rolling Zone - Phil Collen Interview Quote

Inspirations/The Professionals Album

"And the Pistols when they came out, it was such an amazing thing. I have the honor of playing with Paul Cook in one of my other bands, Manraze. They’re actually doing a Professionals album, I just guested on one song. Steve Jones is on it, and Paul Cook. It’s kind of a punk thing. It’s just amazing. It’s kind of cool getting a lot of inspiration from different places, really. It can be a book, it can be a movie, it can be a story. Lots of different things kind of blow my skirt, if you like, just kind of gets the stuff moving."
