Def Leppard 2017. By U105.8 Radio

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell has been interviewed by Belfast radio and talked about the 2018 world tour.

He was speaking to DJ Maurice Jay of U105.8 radio for their Breakfast show in Belfast yesterday.

Vivian talked about Sweet Savage, OH YEAH Legend Award, Teaser/Sweet Savage, DIO/Jimmy Bain, Last In Line/Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Def Leppard's Action, rock excess stories, Def Leppard, South American tour and 2018 tour plans.

As well as mentioning tonight's awards show Vivian also gave some info about the 2018 tour. The UK/Europe tour (possibly In The Round...) will not take place until later in the year and will follow a "big American tour" starting in "Spring".

As various band members have explained in recent year the band will either tour the UK/Europe in Spring/early Summer or late in the year to fit around the US summer amphitheatre touring circuit.

Japan was also mentioned and any tour announcement is not expected until early 2018, in keeping with recent US tour announcements which usually happen between January to March.

Joe previously stating next year's tour would likely start in May during an interview in August.

Sav also confirmed a Sheffield Arena visit during another interview. The arena having recently been sponsored by the Doncaster/Sheffield Airport and named as 'Fly DSA Arena'.

U105.8 Radio - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

The OH YEAH Legend Award

"I'm still trying to make sense of it you know. The last award I won was when I was with Hillsborough Boys. I was twelve. They were a good wee team back then. And in between then I've got no awards you know."

"It's very flattering I gotta say and we were just talking before we went on the air there about how nervous I am about whether or not I should start naming names. I would be there for a while because I've been in a lot of bands. I mean, you know, I've been very fortunate in that way. I've gotten to work with a lot of great musicians. So in the heat of the moment I would forget to name someone and then someone will be pissed off."

Def Leppard South American tour

"We just got back from South America. We only played there once and that was 20 years ago in 1997 and we hadn't been back since. We went down there, we played Rock In Rio to 100,000 people. It was just immense. We did a couple of shows with The Who. I had Pete Townshend carve his name into my guitar. It's funny he took out a sharpie. I'd says Pete can you sign my guitar for me?. I took out my 56 gold top reissue. He says are you sure that's a really nice guitar?. So he takes out a sharpie and I go Pet, you know it's like, you of all people. When did you start being nice to guitars?. So I handed him a screwdriver and he carves his name into it."

"So it was great. We played - the best thing I think about all of that. You know Brazil we did three shows down there. We did Buenos Aires which is a great, great rock city. Like Belfast it's one of the great rock audiences in the world. And we played Santiago, Chile. Went to Mexico for a few shows. But the biggest take away from it all for me was that easily half of the audience or more were young enough to be our kids. And they knew the tunes. So that's very encouraging. So we're definitely gonna be going back there soon."

Def Leppard 2018 Tour Plans

"Yeah next year will be a big year. We're gonna do a big, big American tour starting in the Spring. And then at the end of next year we're gonna come over to Europe and the UK. Probably gonna go to Japan and Australia. They're still doing all the details to that but we're definitely coming back here."
