It was opened in 1905 as Jefferson County Armory and later Louisville Convention Center.

It was renamed as Louisville Gardens in 1975 and is also called by its nickname 'The Gardens'.

In honour of this Joe Elliott sang guest vocals on Bad Company song 'Shooting Star' during their opening set.

Lead singer Jon Butcher then guested on Def Leppard's regular encore song 'Travellin' Band'.
