VIVIAN CAMPBELL Gives LAST IN LINE Update/Singer Says Band May Be Over

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell shared an update on his side band Last In Line in June but now singer Andrew Freeman suggests they are done.

Vivian shared an update on his Last In Line band last month.

The singer has now suggested the band might be over in a new Facebook post.

Last In Line Over (?)

Andrew Freeman last night posted a photo of himself and Vivian on stage in Las Vegas and added the message shown below.

Which included the curious line - "The band may have run its course." suggesting they are no more.

4th Last In Line Album/New Material

This contradicts Vivian's recent interview done in June with Eddie Trunk where after talking about his illness and recovery and the next Def Leppard album, he also said Last In Line would be back out there soon.

And then talked of plans for another album which was already written with at least a four new songs ready for him to add guitar for a possible EP release.

He also said they would release music a few songs at a time rather before a full album.

Andrew's statement suggests these plans may be on hold now or called off permanently.

Vivian did end his Last In Line update with the line "we'll see what happens".

Fortunately Vivian has had good health news, continues to tour with Def Leppard and they have a new album being worked on with up to 18 new songs.

So it's not all bad news.

Read Andrew and Vivian's quotes below and listen again to the full Eddie Trunk interview.

Last In Liner Over(?)

"One for the books…."

"Vivian Campbell and myself lighting up the stage at Vinyl in the old Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas — back when Last In Line was out there keeping the flame alive."

"The venues may be gone. The band may have run its course."

"But the music? Still loud. Still real. Still unforgettable."

Vivian Campbell 12th June 2025 Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Eddie:

What’s the status of Last in Line?

Vivian:

Not a lot, actually—there hasn’t been a lot going on.

Our last show was the first week of May last year at the M3 Festival in Baltimore.

And right after that, I went touring with Leppard all through the summer, and obviously, after that tour, I was dealing with the transplant and chemo and stuff.

So it’s basically my fault—I’ve got to kind of schedule things and get us back up and running again.

But the short answer is: we probably won’t do anything this year.

We’re working on a record—we actually wrote the songs so long ago I’ve practically forgotten them!

But we do have an album written.

We have four mastered tracks that we’re currently working on.

The ball is in my court—I’ve got to do guitar on those tracks.

I’ve only done one so far.

Once those four are finished, we’ll probably release them.

We wrote an album’s worth of music, but I’m not sure we’ll put it all out at once.

We might release it piecemeal.

Because, you know, albums just have such a short shelf life nowadays.

So maybe it’ll be more beneficial to release two, three, or four tracks at a time.

Hopefully next year we’ll get back to doing some shows.

But it’s been rough since our last gig.

We lost our road manager/roadie—his name was Mark Weber.

He passed away last July.

It’s not like Def Leppard—we travel in Sprinter vans and have one roadie.

We’ve had a lot of attrition in Last in Line.

Like I said earlier, we lost Jimmy Bain to cancer on the eve of our debut album’s release.

Then we lost our manager, Steve Strange, three years ago—also to cancer.

And now Mark.

But, having said all that, it’s very, very cathartic for me to play on stage with Last in Line.

It really exercises the muscle of furious guitar playing.

It keeps me sharp—keeps me at the top of my game.

The travel is hard—back-to-back shows, five or six hours a day in a Sprinter van, cheese sandwiches, no sleep.

But when we’re on stage, it’s just electrifying.

It recharges my batteries.

And then when I go back to Def Leppard, I feel so confident in my playing again.

So yeah, I’d like to get back at it.

I do miss it, to be honest.

Eddie:

And it definitely keeps your ego in check, right?

Vivian:

It keeps you real, Eddie.

It makes me appreciate what we’ve got in Leppard.

So good.

And Last in Line is great.

I love the band.

I love the guys—I mean, I love Andrew, Phil, and Vinny.

Eddie:

You guys play the hell out of the Dio songs.

Vivian:

They’re amazing songs, and a big part of my history.

So that’s a cool aspect of it too.

I hope we can get out and do some shows when the timing is right.

And look—now that I’ve kicked this cancer, thank God—I might even have more energy to do it.

So we’ll see what happens.

Eddie:

Eddie: Oh, absolutely.
