The Joe Elliott Show - 4th April 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock

Great to be with you once again. Great to be home. Just had nine fantastic days down in India — three great gigs, incredible crowds.

Just a really great time. First time we've ever been there in 49 years.

Hopefully it won't be the last. It really was a fantastic time, but it is good to be home and I've got just 60 minutes — that's it — to play you some, in my humble opinion, wonderful music.

And tonight...

Let's just say it's a very kind of topical show. A lot of topical things going on and I want to share them with you.

So why not? Let's get the show started with this crowd who some of you will be seeing this year. This is Rush.

Rush

Yes, indeed. If you are a fan of the band Rush you have already got your ticket for the show.

They started off with the idea of doing maybe 10–15 shows and I think they're up to close to 70 now and probably growing as we speak because the demand is just off the charts. And why not — they haven't played live for over 10 years since the passing of the late great Neil Peart.

Nobody thought they'd ever see them again, but they've got the new drummer. They've got a keyboard player. So they're now a four-piece. Gonna be interesting to see how it goes down, but I have a feeling it's gonna go down really well because they are such a well-loved band. Of course, it is Rush from their debut album, 1973, Finding My Way.

Pat Travers

Right, let's stay Canadian for the next couple of tunes shall we?. Starting off with Pat Travers.

And before that Pat Travers, who I did know a lot about because I saw him open for the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

And saw him live on the second album as well with Nicko (McBrain) on drums from once of Iron Maiden, of course, and then Def Leppard would go on to tour with him three years later.

But that's Pat Travers from 1977, the second album Making Magic. Song we heard: Hooked on Music.

The Band

Well, I have to admit at the age of 11 I didn't really know a lot about that band, but I did buy that single because it just gets under your skin a little bit, that song, doesn't it?

It is The Band from the album of the same name with Rag Mama Rag.

Roxy Music

Well, from two — well, three actually — class Canadian artists. Here's two class British artists, starting off with Roxy Music.

And before that they came from outer space.

Well, not really, but they kind of look like they did. It's Roxy Music from the album Country Life with a big hit single All I Want Is You.

Uriah Heep

All comes under the umbrella of rock but two very distinctive, different ways of delivering. That is Uriah Heep.

Wonderful stuff from the album Demons and Wizards. We just heard Circle of Hands.

You are listening to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up...

Well, we heard them last week, but we're gonna hear them again.

Queen

And before that — yes, I know I played them last week and I'm playing them this week and I'll probably play them next week because this remix, revisited, reimagined Queen II is absolutely stupendous. That is the best word for it. Absolutely wonderful stuff. What we heard this week is Ogre Battle.

Led Zeppelin

Well if you've been visiting your rock websites, specifically the Planet Rock site, you will have seen that Jimmy Page recently released the demo of that song for all and sundry to hear. And I can only say this to Jimmy Page: Jimmy, if you've got any more, there's a lot of fans out here that would love to hear it because anything Led Zeppelin has never been heard before — it's gonna be all ears all over the world.

Of course, I'm not sure I would have had permission to play it on the radio, so I've gone with the original version which indeed does not suck. It is from Physical Graffiti — the song is Ten Years Gone.

Lindisfarne

Right, then let's head off up to the North East shall we for the most beautifully haunting songs to ever bless our ears. This is Lindisfarne.

And before that the wonderful Lindisfarne with one of the greatest songs from that era from anywhere in the world — from the beautifully titled Nicely Out of Tune. We heard the most wonderful song Lady Eleanor.

Buckingham Nicks

I play that because recently I read that Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks — for it is they that we just heard — may be reuniting this year. That's gonna be interesting because it was a big fallout.

But if they do get back together, well, the possibilities are endless, aren't they? Maybe yet another album of the two of them together, or maybe — sadly without Christine McVie — maybe a reunion of Fleetwood Mac. Who knows?

Sadly as well this week Lindsey Buckingham in the papers for all the wrong reasons because somebody threw some unknown substance in his face while he was walking around in Los Angeles. Not cool.

But what is cool is if they do get together — well, hopefully new music. There is old music from Buckingham Nicks from 1972 — the song is Crying in the Night.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, that's about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So don't touch that dial.

Until then I shall leave you with this: another great bit of rock news this week is he's about to be immortalized in statue — he being Bon Scott. Later this year would be his 80th birthday. Good God. And then I thought about it — 47 years ago Def Leppard opened for AC/DC on the Highway to Hell tour.

47 years — that's just crazy.

But no better man to have a statue to immortalize him because he was a wonderful human being and a fantastic rock and roll singer. There's your clue. Till next week. See ya.
