Show Intro
Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Great to be with you once again.
This week, coming to you all the way from Mumbai in India. Used to be called Bombay many years ago; it's now Mumbai. And the crowds down here are completely mental. It's just brilliant.
We've never played here in 49 years of being a band, so it's really great to break some new territory. It makes a change, and just experiencing different cultures has been wonderful so far.
As hopefully will this show tonight, because for the next 60 minutes, in my humble opinion, we have some absolutely corking tunes.
And where else could I start the show but with this absolutely brand new, from 1974, remixed?,
This is Queen.
Queen
It was just released yesterday, and thanks to my friendship with Sir Brian May, I got a pre-release copy. I was able to soak it in over the last few days and choose which particular tune I wanted to play tonight.
Of course, I had to go with the opening piece. It is just an incredible piece of work. Now, having heard Queen I remixed, and that was an incredible improvement, I was a little concerned that Queen II might be difficult to improve on because it's almost perfection as it was anyway.
But they have done an incredible job with this. So if you're a Queen fan, you've got to get this. It's unbelievable. Queen II remixed, 2026 style. What we just heard was “Procession” and “Father to Son”. Absolutely wonderful stuff.
Jellyfish
Now, what do you get if you put The Beatles, Cheap Trick, Sparks, Crowded House, and most pop-grunge bands that have ever existed, like Red Kross, into a bucket and stir them up? Well, you get this. It's Jellyfish.
And before that, a band that I came very late to the party for. I'd heard a few tracks now and then, but a friend of mine sent me a couple of albums over the last week or so, and I gave them a listen on one of the flights while we're here in India.
I really kind of dug this album. The album is called Spilt Milk. It is Jellyfish, and the song that we heard was “Joining a Fan Club”.
Something that I never did, apart from maybe the Tufty Club when I was about five. But I digress.
Cheap Trick
From 1979's Dream Police album, that is Cheap Trick with “Way of the World”.
All About Eve
Now, here's a band that were label mates of ours many, many years ago. This is All About Eve.
And before that, we heard All About Eve from their Winter Words: Hits and Rarities album with “Every Angel”.
Badfinger
Well, you can hear why all four members of The Beatles thought that band was so good that they would sign them to their own label.
Yes, Badfinger. The album is Straight Up. The song we just heard was “Day After Day”. .
You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock, this week coming to you all the way from Mumbai in India.
Coming up, we're going to get our fingers all sticky with The Rolling Stones.
The Rolling Stones
And before that, The Rolling Stones, all seven minutes and 16 seconds of it, from the album Sticky Fingers back in 1971 with “Can't You Hear Me Knocking”.
Yes
I just love great vocal harmonies, and that is a fantastic example from the Yes album.
It is, of course, Yes with “I've Seen All Good People”.
Be Bop Deluxe
Right then, let's head on down to “Terminal Street” with Be-Bop Deluxe.
And before that, we heard Be-Bop Deluxe, all the way from Wakefield, a brilliant album from 1976, Modern Music, the song that we heard “Down on Terminal Street”.
Argent
For some mysterious reason, that song has been appearing in my life for the last seven days on random playlists.
I've heard it on the radio. I've heard it in airports. I thought it was a sign. I better play it. It is Argent. It's the edited-down single version of their big hit from 1972, “Hold Your Head Up”.
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, all the way from Mumbai in India, that is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure, as always.
I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, all the way from home.
So until then, I shall leave you with this from the 1973 album Band on the Run. This is Paul McCartney and Wings with “Jet”.
Until next week, see ya.
