The Joe Elliott Show - 29th November 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How you doing?

In fact, what are you doing listening to me?

You should be at Rockstock — it is Rockstock weekend.

But the fact that you're not there and you are listening, I really do appreciate that.

For the next 60 minutes or so we have got, in my humble opinion as always, some wonderfully eclectic music lined up for you tonight.

Where are we gonna start?

We're gonna start with this crowd.

They've only been around for 55 pushing 60 years.

It is The Rolling Stones.

The Rolling Stones

Yes, mainstays of the charts since way back in the early ’60s, along with another band that did quite well from that time period.

In fact, one member of said other band — The Fab Four — guests on that particular song.

Yes indeed, that is The Rolling Stones featuring Sir Paul McCartney on bass, from an album called Hackney Diamonds, which is their latest album.

And I hear a rumour that they are making yet another album with Andrew Watt, so can’t wait to hear that if the rumours are indeed true.

The song that we just heard, Bite My Head Off

Budgie

Well, let’s go from Hackney to the Valleys, shall we?

This is Budgie, from last year’s remix of their debut album, which was originally released in 1971.

And before that, we heard Budgie, from an album called Never Turn Your Back on a Friend.

We heard the immortal Breadfan.

Queen

That is Queen — the album now called Queen I.

The song that we just heard, Liar.

And what a difference 50 years makes when it comes to a drum sound.

Incredible stuff.

The Struts

Right then, here’s a band that have just signed with Def Leppard’s management company.

Let’s hope that it takes them to more success.

This is The Struts.

And before that, The Struts, wonderful stuff from their redux version of the album Everybody Wants.

We heard the wonderful Black Swan.

Horslips

Now, I’ve been thinking about this all week, and I actually think that they were the first Irish band I ever saw, because I believe I saw Horslips — for it is they that we just heard — before I ever saw Thin Lizzy.

Sheffield Top Rank, back in 1976, and I don’t think I saw Lizzy until 1977.

So they were the first Irish band that I ever saw live, and they were absolutely amazing.

Slight, obviously Irish twist to their music — a little bit Jethro Tull, a lot of Irish — equals Horslips, from an album called The Book of Invasions.

The song that we just heard, The Power and the Glory.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, featuring that wonderful vocalist that is Myles Kennedy, we’re gonna hear some Slash.

Slash

And before that, we heard Slash featuring the fantastic vocals of Myles Kennedy, with a beautiful bit of work called Starlight.

Jethro Tull

Well, I mentioned them just a few minutes ago, so I thought I’d give them a spin.

That is Jethro Tull, taken from that wonderful 1971 album Aqualung, with Mother Goose.

The Who

Right here, being all Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy, The Who.

And before that, we heard The Who, from that collection called Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy, with the infectious rhythm that is Magic Bus.

The Band

I remember when I first heard that song so many years ago, thinking, “Well, this sounds very different to what normally fills up the British pop charts.”

When I think about it these days, it’s almost like it’s Americana-vaudeville.

It is The Band, who once backed up Bob Dylan, from an album of the same name, with Rag Mama Rag.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, on this Rockstock weekend, is about it for this week.

Been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don’t go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this from the 1972 album Framed.

This is The Sensational Alex Harvey Band with St. Anthony.

Until next week — see ya.
