Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the Wonderful Planet Rock."

"This week it's coming to you all the way from Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania."

"Def Leppard are currently about a third of the way through a massive US tour, 26 shows all together with Steve Miller, occasionally Cheap Trick, Journey and our good selves."

"Tonight, before we go on, I have the small matter of this radio show to take care of, so let's crack on, because I've only got 60 minutes, the kings of oblivion themselves."

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is The Pink Fairies."

Pink Fairies

"Renowned for playing free gigs all over the country back in the day, but I remember when I saw them at the Sheffield Top Rank in the mid-70s, I had to pay to get in, so I don't know what went wrong there."

"It's The Pink Fairies, the Kings of Oblivion themselves."

"Hard to put your finger on what they are, they sound kind of punkish, but they're from an era when it was all hippies."

"That song, once covered by Motorhead, but that is from the album Kings Of Oblivion."

"It is The Pink Fairies with City Kids."

The Tubes

"Well that is a classic sound from the 70s."

"Let's take it into the more digital 80s age now, this is The Tubes."

"And before that we heard The Tubes from an album called Inside Out featuring Luke."

"Yes, Steve Lukather on guitar in that particular song, the track is She's A Beauty."

Rush

"From the oddly named Power Windows, well odd to me at least, that is Rush with The Big Money, great tune."

The Black Crowes

"Okay, so if that 80s sound is not your thing, maybe you'll dig this a little bit more."

"Definitely more of a 70s sound, but the band's certainly not from the 70s at all."

"This is The Black Crowes."

"And before that we heard The Black Crowes from the album By Your Side with Kicking My Heart Around."

Thunder

"What a fantastic voice that young man has, it is of course Danny Bowes."

"And we obviously wish him a continued success on his road to recovery, but there he is with his boys Thunder from the album Backstreet Symphony with She's So Fine."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."

"Coming to you this week all the way from Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania."

"Coming up, a few mental notes from Split Enz."

Split Enz

"And before that we heard Split Enz from an album that was produced by Eno's old bandmate, Phil Manzanera."

"The album is Mental Notes, the song that we heard, Walking Down A Road."

Brian Eno

"So earlier this week we had the great pleasure of staying for a few days in Philadelphia and the hotel that we stayed in had a channel that was dedicated to a piece of music composed by Brian Eno specifically for the hotel."

"I mean, how bizarre is that?."

"You turn your TV on in your room and it starts off with this thing and it's Brian Eno for the hotel in Philadelphia."

"It was like a kind of a massage music, lounge music, whatever you want to call it, just background noise."

"It was actually very interesting and very bizarre, but it put him in mind, so I thought I'd play something that was almost a big hit for him just after he left Roxy Music in about 1973."

"It is from an album called Here Come The Warm Jets."

"The song is Needles in the Camel's Eye, as you do."

John Mayall

"So the hotel that I was just talking about was one of the tallest buildings I've ever been in outside of Japan and I was on the 54th floor, so essentially I was up in the clouds, which is sadly where John Mayall is now."

"So let's celebrate John Mayall, who passed away early this week at the age of 90."

"And before that, we heard the late, great John Mayall."

"Now maybe a lot of rock fans aren't that familiar with who John Mayall was, but let's just say as a sliding doors moment."

"No John Mayall, possibly no Cream, no Fleetwood Mac, no Rolling Stones, because so many British musicians went through his tuition and through his band that it kind of basically reflects on all of us."

"Without John Mayall, there'd be nobody at all, so well worth celebrating."

"And they're taken from an album called Blues from Laurel Canyon back in 1968 we heard Walking On Sunset."

Robert Plant/Alison Krauss

"If you were listening to my show last week from Nashville, you may well remember that I played This Guitar, a Def Leppard song from Diamond Star Halos, which featured Alison Krauss on co-lead vocals."

"Well, why am I playing her again this week, you may ask, albeit with the great Robert Plant?."

"Well, because she came to see us in Nashville last week and also just a few days ago it was her birthday."

"So happy birthday, Alison Krauss."

"And there she is with Robert Plant from that wonderful album that is Raising Sand with Please Read the Letter, which was originally recorded by Page and Plant on the Walk Into Clarksdale album back in 1998."

Show Outro

"And that, my dear friends, all the way from Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania is about it for this week."

"It's been a real pleasure as always, but hey, you knew that already."

"I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then, let's go out with this beauty from the album Snakes And Ladders."

"This is Rod Stewart and the Faces and Poole Hall Richard."

"Until next week from Boston, see ya!."
