Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How are you?

I don't know what it's like where you are, but where I am, it is manky. I mean, it's really crap.

The weather is just rubbish, so it's a great day to stay indoors and listen to your radio — and listen to the next 60 minutes of, in my humble opinion, some magnificent music.

Got some new stuff, got some new-old stuff, and I've got some just generally old stuff — like this one from 1975, from his debut album.

In fact, this is Ian Hunter.

Ian Hunter

Well, as endings go, they don't get much more abrupt than that, do they?

That is magnificent stuff from Ian Hunter's debut album back in 1975 — the closing track, as it happens.

It is "I Get So Excited."

Aerosmith

And I'm very excited right now to be able to introduce this next tune, because it's absolutely brand new — only released yesterday.

This, featuring Yungblud, is brand-new Aerosmith.

And before that, we heard brand-new Aerosmith.

Now, I had an inkling that they weren't done.

They say they're retired — retired from the road maybe.

I do think that they might do residences in Vegas down the road.

Because Steven, for all his voice problems (supposedly), sounded fantastic at the Ozzy gig — and sounds great on this as well.

Also featuring Yungblud, it's from an EP that's coming out very soon, and that's the lead-off track.

It is called "My Only Angel."

David Bowie

Well, being the Bowie freak that I am — and you know I am — you'd think that I'd know all about that, but that absolutely passed me by whenever it came out.

Quite possibly because it was for radio only.

But it's a mashup of two of David's songs — one from 2003, from the Reality album, a song called "Never Get Old," and of course the other one from 1974's Diamond Dogs album, "Rebel Rebel."

So they have cleverly titled that one "Rebel Never Gets Old."

It is from the brand-new box set that just came out, called I Can't Give Everything Away.

It's from the Re:Call 6 disc in said box set — I think it's about a six-CD box.

It's a very, very interesting box set — as all Bowie's work is.

Whitesnake

Now here's something else that's brand new — but not so much.

I spoke with Lord Coverdale this week, and I said, "Oh, thank you!" — he sent me a copy of the remixed version of the album Forevermore.

And then I realized that it's actually not out yet!

So I said, "Well, I was going to play a specific song, but it's not out for another week. Can I play it?"

And he went, "Of course you can, darling."

So here is a world exclusive of a brand-new remix of the song "Steal Your Heart Away."

And before that, we heard Whitesnake again — a brand-new release of some old material.

In fact, it's not even out yet!

I spoke to Lord Coverdale this week and I said, "I'm gonna play something" — but I realized that the album's not out for another week. "Can I play it?"

He says, "Of course you can, darling."

So with his blessing, you just had a world exclusive of the absolutely brilliant remix from the Forevermore album — "Steal Your Heart Away."

Faces

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is one of many versions of that song.

It is on this recently released box set called The Faces at the BBC — and what a collection of songs it is.

It's pretty much everything they ever did when they visited the BBC sessions — but mostly in concert.

It's about 95% complete because apparently some tapes got lost.

And can you believe this? Some of the tapes got wiped — because it was BBC policy to wipe after broadcast!

No! Sacrilege!

You can't do that — but they did.

And I guess they did it to save money and space.

What we just heard there is their version — or one of many versions — of this old classic Motown song that was featured actually on a Rod Stewart solo album, Every Picture Tells a Story.

The song is "I Know I'm Losing You."

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up — we're gonna get all fragile with Yes.

Yes

And before that — Yes, who are going to play the entire Fragile album on their next tour, which is going to include a night at the Sheffield City Hall.

I might have to jump on a plane and go over and watch that, because I've never seen Yes live.

All these years I've been a fan, and I've never seen them on stage.

Totally different lineup, of course — but still, the song remains the same, as they say.

And there they are from the album Fragile, with the immortal "Roundabout."

The Who

They're currently on their last go-around the USA right now, and I'm looking forward to meeting up with them in a couple of weeks' time — because Def Leppard are doing a show with The Who for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

But we're doing it out in California, and it's an acoustic set — which is going to be quite an interesting evening.

But there they are — from an album called Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy — with "The Seeker."

Ricky Warwick

Now, the weather right now here on the island of Ireland may well be very tragic — but the talent pool is absolutely nothing like it.

It runs deep, and it is wonderful.

It's a couple of Irish artists back to back.

In fact, the first one — half Irish, half Scottish — gotta get that in, or he might just kill me.

So let's go with Gaelic — this is Ricky Warwick.

And before that, Ricky Warwick, who is playing KK’s Place tonight in Wolverhampton.

Good luck with that one!

Ricky is currently touring solo at the moment — no Black Star Riders, just Ricky.

But there he is, from his debut solo album back in (I think it was) 2002 — I should know, I did co-produce it with him and Roland McHugh.

The album is called Tattoos and Alibis.

The song that we just heard is a beautiful bit of work called "The Genuine Fool."

Thomas Walsh

If you're a regular listener to my show, you will know I have sung this man's praises many times.

His name is Thomas Walsh — and he's the leader of a band called Pugwash.

In fact, he is Pugwash.

But during lockdown, he decided to do a solo album — and actually put it out under his own name: Thomas Walsh.

The album is called The Rest Is History.

The song that we heard: "Man Lies Down Again."

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, is about it for this particular show.

Been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week, at exactly the same time.

So as I often say — don’t go anywhere.

Why would you want to anyway?

Don't touch that dial — because this is the only station that you ever need to listen to.

So until next week, I shall leave you with this — We're gonna stay on the island of Ireland.

This is a band formed out of Belfast and Dublin, from an album called Vagabonds of the Western World.

This is Thin Lizzy — and "The Rocker."

Until next week… see ya!
