Show Intro
Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you.
The tour is over. 2025 in the bag. We played our last show in Gary, Indiana, last Saturday.
We spent a few days in Las Vegas doing some reconnaissance for the February residency that we're gonna do. But that's three months away — lots to do between now and then, specifically this next hour or so.
Let's get this show started, shall we, with this beauty from Tom Morello.
Tom Morello
So yeah, as we were leaving Los Angeles after the Walk of Fame ceremony last Friday, Who did I bump into at the LAX Airport, on his way to Chicago just like we were? None other than Tom Morello.
So I thought, this is a great excuse to play one of his songs to open the show tonight. And what an interesting version it is indeed — featuring on vocals none other than Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder.
That is Tom Morello with his amazing version of the AC/DC classic, Highway to Hell.
Bad Company
So, ourselves and Tom Morello flew into Chicago. Who else flew into Chicago, albeit in the mid-70s? Bad Company did.
And before that, we heard Bad Company flying into Chicago just like we did this year — but they did it back in 1970. Well, the song's from ’74 or ’75, so they probably flew in in ’73 or ’74. It is from the album Run with the Pack. The song we heard: Sweet Little Sister.
Moody Blues
I played that because, as you've probably heard or read, sadly just a few days ago, we lost John Lodge from The Moody Blues — one of the nicest guys I ever met. I was actually side-by-side with him on a treadmill in a gym about ten years ago somewhere in the States. He was genuinely one of the funniest men I've ever met. I almost fell off the treadmill about five times listening to his stories. Absolutely lovely guy.
Big fan of that song when I was a kid growing up. It is In Search of the Lost Chord — that’s the album. The song: Ride My See-Saw.
Joan Jett And The Blackhearts
So, not only did the Grim Reaper whip off John Lodge this week, he also took a guy called Thommy Price. You may not know him by name, but he's one of the great new wave/punk drummers of his era.
Here's a couple of songs that he played on.
Joan Jett opened for Def Leppard a couple of times, and Thommy Price was her drummer on at least one of those tours. Great guy. Great, great drummer. Can't believe that he's gone — only 68 years old.
And before that, we heard Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, from her album Sinner, with her version of an old Sweet classic called AC/DC.
So rest in peace, both Thommy Price and John Lodge.
Billy Idol
A couple of examples of his work right there: We just heard Billy Idol, from the album Rebel Yell, with the title track.
You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
And seeing as we just heard a Sweet song called AC/DC, coming up after the break, we’re gonna actually hear AC/DC, followed by Sweet.
AC/DC
And before that, we heard AC/DC from that wonderful album Let There Be Rock, with Problem Child.
The Sweet
That's such a great song, it really is. Taken from the album The Non-Stop Hits and B-Sides, it is Sweet with Fox on the Run.
Elton John
Now, the aforementioned residency that Def Leppard are doing in February 2026 in Las Vegas — it's at a very famous venue called The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
It has been the home of many artists. One of the most famous was Elton John, when he did his Red Piano residency there, which ran for years and years. I wonder if he played this song...
And before that, we heard the amazing Sir Elton John, from that wonderful album Madman Across the Water, with Holiday Inn. A chain I doubt he’s stayed in very often since he wrote that song.
Roxy Music
Well, if that’s not my favorite Roxy Music album, it's right up there. It's 1975’s Siren, and the song that we just heard — the big hit single — Both Ends Burning.
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, is about it for this particular week. Been a real pleasure, as always.
I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So please, don’t go anywhere — why would you ever want to anyway?
So until then, we’re gonna go out with this absolute monster of an epic song from the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, from the album Next, back in 1973.
This is The Last of the Teenage Idols.
Till next week — see ya!.
