Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again as always. Got some great music lined up tonight in my humble opinion. Let's go all the way back to one of the greatest years in rock, 1972. This is Deep Purple."

Deep Purple

"When I think of my record collection and I think of the year 1972. And in fairness '73. It's about 90 percent of everything I own. There's some absolutely amazing music. And of course in your formative years your brain is a sponge and you pretty much take in everything. But that is one of the greatest records of that particular year. In fact it's one of the greatest rock albums ever made. It's Deep Purple. The album is Machinehead. The song we heard Highway Star."

Ace Frehley

"Now if you were listening last week you may well remember that I played a track from the Paul Stanley solo album from 1978. One of four albums released on the same day from all members of KISS. And we all think of Paul and Gene as the leaders of KISS. And that they were probably gonna be the biggest selling records. Well we'd be wrong wouldn't we. The biggest selling record, Ace Frehley."

"And before that we heard Ace Frehley who had the biggest selling record of all four KISS solo albums. Released on the same day back in 1978. Possibly because he had a big hit single with a cover of the Hello song New York Groove. The song we just heard Rip it Out."

UFO

"Now I just read on Wikipedia that some of the keyboards and some backing vocals were actually performed by Jon Sloman. The fantastic singer that used to be in Lone Star. And no doubt he got the job because the guitarist on that particular record was Paul Chapman. Also once of Lone Star. I did not know that. Also I did not know that it was a self produced album 'cause I was always led to believe that it was produced by George Martin of Beatles fame. But guess they just used his studio. It is from 1981. The album is called The Wild, The Willing And The Innocent. We just heard the title track."

The Clash

"Right here with their own brand of combat rock is The Clash."

"And before that we heard The Clash. With a song that was musically written by Topper Headon the drummer. From the album Combat Rock we heard Rock the Cashbah."

Japan

"Absolutely adore that record. It is called Adolescent Sex from 1977. The band are Japan. The song that we just heard Unconventional State Line."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up, we're gonna be celebrating with some Drastic Symphonies."

Def Leppard

"And before that we heard Def Leppard from the Drastic Symphonies album thatI just found out a little while ago has been number one on the Classical charts for 16 weeks. 11 of them consecutively. So I thought that was something well worth celebrating with you good folk. The song that we just heard from the Drastic Symphonies album, Kings Of The World."

Queen

"Although it is credited to the entire band, that song was actually written by Brian May. Because it was supposed to be on his solo album Back To the Light. But I'm guessing that the other members of Queen heard the song and went, hang on a minute sunshine, we should be doing that. And so Brian gave it to the band and Fred did what Fred does and he contributed a fantastic vocal to it. So aren't we all glad that Brian made that decision. It is from the last album that Queen made while Fred was still alive. From 1991 the album is Innuendo. The song Headlong."

Mammoth WVH

"Now here's a band that I was mightily impressed with when they opened for Def Leppard and Motley Crue on the UK tour this summer. This is Mammoth WVH."

"And before that Mammoth WVH. Which of course stands for Wolfgang Van Halen. Who opened for Def Leppard and Motley Crue this summer on the British and Irish shows. All the wind and rain except for Wembley where it was absolutely beautiful. What a great live band they are as well. From the album also titled Mammoth WVH we just heard Resolve."

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

"About 20 years ago when I was in the studio with Ricky Warwick co-producing his first solo album. We listened to this particular album incessantly because it was essentially the blueprint of the kind of record that we wanted to make. And all these years later to me it still sounds absolutely amazing. The album is She's The One. It's Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. The song that we just heard Walls (No. 3)."

Show Outro

"And that my dear friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. You knew that already. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So don't touch that dial. Don't go anywhere. Where else would you wanna be other than Planet Rock.

"I shall leave you with this 'cause as you know I like to go out with a stonker. And this is a stonker. It's the title track. It's Motorhead. It's the Ace of Spades. Until next week see ya!."
