Show Intro
"Hello everybody and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show right here on the marvellous Planet Rock. Always a pleasure to be with you. We've got sixty minutes of, in my humble opinion, some wonderful music tonight. Some old, some new. And some absolutely wonderful tunes. Starting off with this crowd. This is very self explanatory."
Aerosmith
"Yes they've just kicked off their farewell tour. Now I haven't seen any European dates yet but you can bet your life that there's gonna be some at some stage because a band as big as Aerosmith, can't do a farewell tour by just playing 30 shows in the US. They've gotta be playing South America, they've gotta be playing Europe. And hopefully Great Britain. But for now we shall just have to live with the fact that we have just heard said band. From the album Rocks. With the immortal Back In The Saddle."
The Rolling Stones
"And talking of back in the saddle. And 18 years since their last studio outing of new material. Here are the daddies of them all. This is brand new Rolling Stones."
"And before that brand new Rolling Stones. Good to have them back after such a long time. They did a couple of songs about 2012 on a compilation called Grrr. One of which was Doom And Gloom. One of the greatest things they've ever done. But it's great to hear there's gonna be a brand new album next month. It is called Hackney Diamonds. And for now first track released from that album is Angry."
Van Halen
"From an album that was absolutely played to death on the first ever Def Leppard tour of the USA. Possibly because it was the only cassette we had. That is Van Halen from the album Women And Children First with And The Cradle Will Rock."
Billy Squier
"Now back in 1982 this gentleman had one of the biggest albums of the year in the USA. This is Billy Squier."
"And before that Billy Squier. Who, as I said in the intro, 1982 this album was so big it actually spilled into 1983. When Def Leppard opened for him in May I think it was. April and May of '83. He was still working that album. Amazing stuff. Even with another one out. The songs on that album were still flying all over the radio. The album is Don't Say No. The song that we heard The Stroke."
Gary Wright
"You may well have read this week that the grim reaper has been round once again and take another one off to the great gig in the sky. Namely Gary Wrigh, once of Spooky Tooth. Who also had in their ranks at one stage Mick Jones who went on to form Foreigner. And Luther Grosvenor aka Ariel Bender of Mott The Hoople. But this is Gary Wright solo from 1975. A huge huge hit for him in the USA. A song called Dream Weaver. So rest in peace Gary Wright."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up, two songs that have got absolutely fantastic intros."
The Motors
"And before that The Motors produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange. And that song once covered by Cheap Trick. From their debut album back in 1977. It is Dancing The Night Away."
Status Quo
"I remember the first time I ever heard that song. I was in what we used to call as kids purgatory. We weren't allowed in the youth clubs 'cause we were too old. And we weren't allowed in the pubs 'cause we were too young. So you kinda just hung around on street corners I guess. But you could hear it through the windows of St Columba's Church. Which is where the Friday Night disco used to be. And I remember us figuring out after the intro which was a little bit mysterious, which was nice considering the title of the song, and then it went into its kind of usual chug that is Status Quo. And it's great. It's from the album Blue For You. The song is Mystery Song."
The Darkness
"Right then from an album that has one of the greatest oxymoron's of all time as its title. This is The Darkness."
"And before that we heard a song that reached Number 8 in the singles charts. Back in 2005. I can not believe that's 18 years ago. From the brilliantly titled One Way Ticket To Hell...And Back. We heard The Darkness with Is It Just Me."
Paul Stanley
"Back in 1978 every single member of KISS released a solo album on the same day. To varying different degrees of success. Ace Frehley's was possibly the most successful because he had a big hit single with his version of Hello's New York Groove. But the one that sounded most like KISS was Paul Stanley. As we just heard there on the song Wouldn't You Like To Know Me."
Show Outro
"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. But hey, as I like to say, you knew that already. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. And don't forget that This Is How I Roll is on Planet Rock premium. 24/7. 365 days a year.
"So until next week I'm gonna leave you with this crowd who Def Leppard toured with all the way through 1996. And I don't think I've ever laughed so much in m life. What a great bunch of guys. This is from an album called How To Make Friends And Influence People. It is Terrorvision with Oblivion. Until next week see ya!."
