Show Intro
"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on, you know where, The Wonderful Planet Rock."
"This week it's coming to you all the way from, well, it doesn't really matter because the tour is over, it's finished."
"Let's just say I'm in sunny climbs getting a tan."
"Nine weeks and four days that tour was, absolutely incredible, but a bit of R&R needed for the band."
"But not for me, at least for the next 60 minutes, because I've got some fantastic tunes lined up for you."
"And we're going to start the show off with a song that's almost going to sound disrespectful to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway."
"This is going to have to do for now."
"This is Queen."
Queen
"Absolutely nothing wrong with that at all to my ears, but according to Roger and Brian, they were never really happy with the original mix of their debut album."
"So they have been in, and as they like to say, they have rebuilt Queen One and it's coming out on the 25th of October as a 63 track box set with 43 brand new mixers."
"Now I can't wait to hear that, but as I said in the intro, that will have to do for now."
"And that is absolutely magnificent stuff."
"From their debut album, we just heard Keep Yourself Alive."
Extreme
"Now here's a band that came to visit Def Leppard in Spokane, Washington about 10 days ago."
"And if you're a fan of Queen, you'll have known who they were beforehand, but I think they will have cemented how brilliant they were if you saw them at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Show."
"This is Extreme."
"And before that we heard from Extreme who came to visit Def Leppard when we played Washington, a little town called Spokane."
"They had a day off there, and they came down to hang, and I thought, you know what, these guys are so amazing, wouldn't it be great if Def Leppard and Extreme could tour together one day."
"So who knows, fingers crossed."
"But then we just heard them from the album Pornograffiti with that fantastic bit of work called Get The Funk Out."
Slash
"Couple of nice bits of uptown funky rock there for you."
"That is Slash from his latest album, Orgy Of The Damned, sung by Tash Neal."
"A neat cover of an old Stevie Wonder classic called Living For The City."
Lou Reed
"Yes the grim reaper has been back around once again, and sadly he has taken somebody to the great gig in the sky."
"Just a few short days ago who I've greatly admired for literally decades."
"His body of work is pretty much untouchable as what is known as an established English session musician."
"And I would like to pay tribute to this gentleman with these couple of songs that are so well known for their bass lines they don't really even need an introduction."
"The gentleman himself who does is Herbie Flowers, but the first song you're going to hear is Lou Reed."
"And before that Lou Reed, incredible bass line, two basses actually, one descending and the other one ascending, very cleverly done."
"The album is Transformer, the song of course, the legendary Walk On The Wild Side, rest in peace Herbie Flowers."
David Essex
"Yes tributes have been rolling in all week and rightfully so, led by Rick Wakeman actually who played with Herbie Flowers on the Space Oddity album for David Bowie back in 1969."
"Herbie also played with the likes of Jeff Wayne for War of the Worlds."
"He was a member of Blue Mink, remember Banner Man, and also CCS, Tap Turns on the Water and their Top of the Pops version of a Whole Lotta Love."
"He was also in the last incarnation of T. Rex."
"And of course as we just heard two of the most iconic and famous bass lines in the world of rock or pop he played on."
"We just heard David Essex there with Rock On, a song covered by Def Leppard back in 2006 on the YEAH! album."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."
"Coming up, my mate, and a very heroic...[once more cut off by ads]
Bon Jovi
"And before that, well, what can you say? If somebody told me that my mate Jon could walk on water, I would believe them because wow, look what he did this week."
"There he was in Nashville, Tennessee, shooting a video on a bridge when he noticed a young lady on the wrong side of that particular bridge."
"Contemplating something rather nasty one would think, and he very subtly and slowly just stopped the shoot, wandered up towards her, talked to her, literally talked her off the ledge, put his arm around her, gave her a hug."
"And he's basically saved somebody's life that day, and that's an incredible thing."
"So I thought one good turn deserves another."
"I play Bon Jovi anyway, I normally go a bit more obscure with the likes of Dry County, but I'm going with one of the hits tonight because it just seems very appropriate."
"It's taken from the Crossroads best of, the song is I'll Be There For You."
Be Bop Deluxe
"I have to admit that that album doesn't get as much love in Elliott Towers as it should when I'm playing Be Bop Deluxe, for it is they that we just heard."
"I normally focus in on the likes of Futurama and Sunburst Finish, but I've been playing this album the last couple of weeks and I thought I should give a song a spin tonight because I've really fell in love with it again."
"The album is Axe Victim, their debut album, a song inspired no doubt by David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars."
"It is Jet Silver And The Dolls of Venus."
Journey
"Right, well as I mentioned earlier on in the show, the Def Leppard Summer Tour is over, so it is time now to say ta-rah to two of the bands that we played with, starting off with Journey."
"And before that Journey who did the entire thing with us, taken from the album Frontiers with Edge Of The Blade."
"See you guys."
Cheap Trick
"Yes, as I mentioned earlier in the show, the Def Leppard Summer Tour of 2024 is over and done, and I just wanted to say a big thanks and see you to two of the bands that we played with."
"I will play him next week, but I wanted to play the guys that we just heard because they're the guys that we finished the tour with, great people, fantastic band."
"It is Cheap Trick from the album One on One with If You Want My Love."
Show Outro
"And talking of see you guys, that's me off for another week."
"I shall be back with you at exactly the same time next week, so don't go anywhere."
"Until then I shall leave you with this."
"And I can't think of anything more appropriate, it's the Sex Pistols from their one and only album Never Mind The Bollocks with what else but Holidays in the Sun."
"Until next week, see ya!"
