DEF LEPPARD Summer Stadium Tour 2024 In PORTLAND, OR (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played a Summer Stadium Tour 2024 show last night in Portland, OR with 18 songs performed.

The show took place at the 20,000 capacity Moda Center.

The first show in this city since September 2018.

The third time at this venue.

Back To the Start

The Summer Stadium Tour moved to Portland, Oregon.

And became The Summer Arena Tour for one night as Stadium tour mates Journey joined Def Leppard for an indoor arena show.

A 15,000 capacity show without the big Thrust/catwalk stage.

In fact no Thrust stage at all at this show which also saw Journey open at 7:30 now that the Steve Miller Band have left the tour.

And no Cheap Trick until the next show.

A return to arenas for the first time since July 2019 in Calgary, AB.

And the first headline arena show in the USA since 7th October 2018 at The Forum in Los Angeles, CA also with Journey.

Nut more importantly a return to the scene of the band's first big arena show in Portland, Oregon at the adjacent Memorial Coliseum in May 1980.

After a smaller size arena in Eugene, OR they supported Pat Travers there in front of 11,000 fans and got their first taste of a large scale arena crowd.

Now they were back indoors and back to where it almost all began just over 44 years ago.

Doors opened at 6:30pm this time half an hour after the usual start on this tour.

After the hour long wait the usual stage times for the 'Co-Headliners' kicked in with Journey playing at 7:30pm.

And by the looks of the many live fan videos they got a great reception from a very packed arena.

Under Fire In Portland

All the live fan broadcasts for Journey suggested there might be lots for Def Leppard and so it was.

So many that almost the entire show was broadcast live by fans.

'Rock! Rock!' started things off with a bang at 9:30pm and then the fun began as everyone who wasn't there could watch/listen along.

Which made up for a lack of posts on IG.

One video happened to be one of the highest quality broadcasts yet seen on FB from Vivian's side of the stage that also captured the video screen at the side.

Giving people a Pro-Shot HD look at the show instead of the usual SD look from far away.

After the big start the Pyromania section began this time with 'Comin' Under Fire'.

Then the equally magnificent 'Too Late For Love' and 'Die Hard The Hunter' and soon it was acoustic time again.

Joe and everyone else now assembled at the front of the Thrust-less stage in stead of out amongst the crowd.

Throughout the show the crowd were very loud so they didn't need to be any closer to hear them.

He recalled that it had been six year since they had played here (and soon the same length of time since the last UK arena tour...).

And with such a great view of the stage they probably got one of the best shows from an audience point of view on this tour yet outside of Hollywood.

Helped by not having the sides blocked off by the old style box-like festival stages they use in stadiums.

Both sides opened up so fans everywhere in the arena got an unobstructed view.

Another big finish with the crowd going bonkers for 'PSSOM' and the first arena show of the tour was over.

Sav this time wearing a Portland Trail Blazers shirt (an NBA team who use this arena).

Somewhere between 14,000 to 15,000 fans witnessed another awesome show on this tour.

Up next a return to outdoor stadiums and with Cheap Trick back as the opening act.

And for once Seattle will be sunny and with clear skies for another roofless stadium venue show.

And many more people in the crowd (sold out in 2022 with 41,280 people attending).

18 Song Setlist

An 18 song setlist was played.

'Just Like '73' and 'Comin' Under Fire' were played in this city for the first time.

And of course given they hadn't played here since 2018 that wasn't the only song to debut here.

Portland History

The first visit to Portland was in May 1980 on their first American tour as support to Pat Travers at the Memorial Coliseum.

That venue was played three times for In the Round shows in 1987/1988 on the Hysteria tour.

Moda Center was last played in September 2018 and also with Journey having played it for the first time in 2017.

That 2017 show had been their first time in the city since opening the Rock Of Ages tour at PGE Park in June 2005.

A show was scheduled at this venue on 17th October 2020 with ZZ Top on the 20/20 Vision Tour before being cancelled due to the pandemic.

Last night's show was the 12th overall (full show) performance in Portland.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Seattle, WA on 4th September.
