DEF LEPPARD's HYSTERIA Album 2x Platinum In The UK
Def Leppard's classic Hysteria album was certified 2 times platinum in the UK on this day in 1989.
The album had been released on 3rd August 1987 worldwide.
It entered the UK chart at Number One on 29th August 1987 becoming the first Number One album of their career.
It's success was helped by the singles 'Animal', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Hysteria' all becoming Top 10 or Top 20 hits.
The album was certified Platinum in the UK on 29th March 1989 for sales of over 600,000.
It had been certified Gold (60,000) and Silver (100,000) in September and Platinum by December 1987.
By mid 1988 the album went on to achieve double Platinum status in the UK.
By way of comparison the current biggest selling album in the UK of all time (as of July 2016) is Queen's 'Greatest Hits' at 6,120,000 (20x Platinum).
