It was opened in 1927 as the Academy Of Music and was originally a movie theatre.
The venue was closed in August 1997 and then demolished in August 1998.
It was renamed at The Palladium in 1976 and reopened as music venue.

A one-off show with AC/DC on their first tour with Brian Johnson supporting the Mutt Lange produced 'Back in Black'.
