- Location / London, England
- Venue / Lyceum Theatre
The first show by the band in this city since February 1980 on the club tour.
The first time at this venue and fourth London show of the year.
The first London headline show in a major theatre venue for the band following three small scale club shows in January/February.
Another show on the On Through The Night UK and World tour with Magnum and local/young acts in support.
The venue is located in the Covent Garden area of the city in the West End theatre district and just north of the River Thames.
It was opened in July 1834.
It was rebuilt four times in 1882, 1904, 1951 and 1996.
It hosted concerts starting in the early 1950s and is currently home to the musical theatre version of The Lion King.
The opener for this show was Tygers Of Pan Tang, a rock band based in Whitley Bay who also played at two other shows on this leg.
They featured Jess Cox (lead vocals), Brian Dick (drums), Richard Laws (bass), Robb Weir (guitars) and possibly John Sykes (guitars) who would later join Whitesnake and sing background vocals on the 'Adrenalize' album.
They went on to release their debut album 'Wild Cat' in August 1980.
A very good audience recording of this show which surfaced in 2010 (the first one from the April 1980 shows) and contains three new songs which were premiered on this tour.
Including 'Lady Strange' and 'Medicine Man' (early version of 'Rock Rock').
The third new song was titled 'When The Rain Falls' which was an early version of 'Let It Go' as mentioned in the 'Animal Instinct' biography of 1987. This recording was the first time any live performance of the song had been confirmed.
Official versions of these songs have now been released as of March 2020 on 'The Early Years' box set live album recorded at the Oxford show.
