Meltdown/101 WRIF - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

New Def Leppard Songs/Working on new stuff?

Always, always. Always working on new stuff you know. I was doing something yesterday actually. We've got a few, three of them on the go already. Joe's got one, Sav's got one, I've got another one. That are all, we've actually started recording them. You know you can do this stuff all the time. You can do it on your laptop now. You don't have to be in a studio per se. So yeah you can actually get it moving and starting already."

"You know so yeah, we've actually started the next thing and I love the direction of it. It's, again when you're doing it over a period of time, you can actually get a bit more in it. When you cram it all in, it kinda of gets a little, sometimes gets a little limited. So it's kind of nice to step back and you can see the wood..because you can get consfused. Wood 'cause of the trees type thing. When you actually do it over a longer period of time and you're not like constantly on it."

"So yeah that's a really good thing."

New Music ideas. How does that work?

"Sometimes or other times like yesterday I got this idea. Actually I done last year when we was in South America. I just played it, I was like Oh wow and I just pretty much finished the song off yesterday. So it was just speechless. It's different every single time. It could be a vocal, it could be lyric. It could be a melody, or guitar riff or a drum pattern. It can be anything that kinda spurs you off. And that's what's exciting about songwriting. You know you don't have to...unless you're a hack songwriter and you do it exactly the same every day."

"But I like that thing where you have a muse and it kind of inspires you and you just follow the inspiration. It's just a lovely way to do it."
