JOE ELLIOTT To Release THIS IS FOR YOU On BESIDE BOWIE Soundtrack

Def Leppard 2018. Beside Bowie

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott will finally release his cover of This Is For You in June on the Beside Bowie soundtrack album.

The 'Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story The Soundtrack' album will be released on 8th June 2018.

The documentary film will be released the same day on DVD and Blu-ray having already been issued in the USA in 2017.

It features Joe's solo cover of Mick's song 'This Is For You' which dates from around 2010 and features the late Dick Decent from the Cybernauts on piano.

Joe played it again on his 28th April Planet Rock radio show.

He first played the song back in 22nd September 2012 in tribute to Dick Decent following his death.

Joe then played the song again in October 2012 and mentioned plans to release it which will now finally happen.

As mentioned in September 2017 the film features Joe briefly talking about Mick.

The album also includes Joe on one of two live songs recorded at the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute show. 'All The Young Dudes' is the first track, where he and Phil sang backing vocals on stage with Queen, David Bowie and Ian Hunter/Mick Ronson.

'Heroes' from the same show is also included.

28th April 2018 - Joe Elliott Show Quote

"A three in a row for a change there folks. And that was, that last track, an absolute Planet Rock exclusive first ever play anywhere in the world of my version of a song that Mick recorded back in 1975 on his Play Don't Worry album. Beautifully written by a gentleman called Laurie Heath. The song is This Is For You. It is the original soundtrack for Beside Bowie which is a documentary on Mick which came out a while back."

25th June 2017 - Joe Elliott Show Quotes

"And sticking in the David Bowie camp for just a little while longer. Just a few days ago a lovely, lovely lady, at the grand old age of 94, passed away. Her name was Minnie Ronson. She was mother to Maggie, and Maggie's older brother Michael. Yes, Mick Ronson's mum has finally gone from Hull to Heaven to join her son. I'd like to dedicate this next song to Maggie and to the memory of Minnie. This is for you."

"And before that you heard yours truly with a song written by a gentleman called Laurie Heath. Recorded in Mick Ronson's second solo album Play Don't Worry. My version ultimately yet to be released. One day, one day. The song dedicated to Minnie Ronson This Is For You."

27th October 2012 - Joe Elliott Show Quote

"If you were tuned in a few weeks ago you probably heard that song before. The song written by Annette Peacock and originally recorded by Mick Ronson on his 1975 Play Don't Worry album. That particular version is myself and Dick Decent. You may remember I was telling ya he was Def Leppard's part time keyboard player and big on the local scene round the black country area. He passed away about a month ago but since I've played it I've had so many emails from people saying is it available. Well sadly it isn't actually but it will be pretty soon in a slightly reworked form. I will let you know about that as soon as I have more details. The song This Is For You."

22nd September 2012 - Joe Elliott Show Quote

"And before that a song that I recorded with Dick for a Mick Ronson documentary. The old Annette Peacock song that Ronson did on his Play Don't Worry album, a tune called This Is For You."

Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story - Joe Elliott Quote

"There's absolutely no doubt the icing on the cake, when it came to the musicianship, was Ronson."
