Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen has been interviewed about the G3 tour and mentioned the next album.

Phil was speaking to The Prog report website.

Phil talked about the current G3 tour with Joe Satriani/Delta Deep set, how he joined the G3 tour/2017 G4 experience, the Royal Albert Hall show, Digital/streaming news, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Delta Deep East Coast Live album, their second album, his live guitar setup, 2018 North American tour, setlist/bigger venues, playing rare songs, the Slang album/what albums he would recommend, self-titled Def Leppard album, the next Def Leppard album and the Tesla studio album he has produced.

Phil said (very briefly) that the band have started their next album which carries on from his and Joe's recent statements about working on new songs. Although the album would not seem likely to be released until at least 2020.

He also suggested the Tesla album 'Stereo Animation' which he has produced would be out in May or June of this year.

Guitarist Frank Hannon announced its title last year during an interview with My Global Mind.

The Prog Report - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

London Royal Albert Hall Show

"I've got some Def Leppard stuff. We've got a thing in March actually at the Albert Hall. We're doing the Teenage Cancer Trust thing at the Royal Albert Hall in London. So that's gonna be really interesting. That's gonna be - that's a really good cause and everything and that'll be fun. So we'll get ready for that."

Digital Catalogue Announcement

"And obviously the rest of the year kinda gets a bit crazier really. There's the whole Def Leppard catalogue on digital whcih was a big deal for us 'cause now all of a sudden we're all over, all over the place. All over the world really. And that's gonna make it really quite busy."

2018 North American Tour With Journey/90 Mins?

"Yeah, I mean we would love to, I think we're doing a little bit more than and then we're doing some of the baseball stadiums as well. So that's gonna be fun. Yeah so there's some cool stuff."

Set Length For The Shows/Stadiums

"So you'd like to play a bit longer but, you know, that's just what it is when you've got two bands who've got like a million songs that everyone wants to hear. It kind of, it limits it a little bit yeah."

Playing Rare Songs/Promoting The Catalogue

"We always pretty much agree on the whole thing. You know someone really wants to play something and we haven't played it for years, we'll throw it in there. This year's gonna be different obviously because of the catalogue, you know, going up on iTunes and Spotify and Amazon and everything. So it's a totally different thing this year. We're promoting basically twelve albums that a lot of people actually haven't heard. So that's pretty exciting actually."

Next Def Leppard Album?

"Started it already. Started it already. Yeah."

The Next Tesla Studio Album

"It's really diverse. I mean one minute, the influences on there are like Queen, The Beatles, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Who. It's got elements of all those bands and artists. Again you know we followed our nose. It wasn't anything that was specific. Most great albums are like a jigsaw puzzle, you know, you get one or two songs that you're really happy with and then it inspires you to do something else. So we were coming along and there was one song and we were going this kind of. If you can imagine, sounds like a cross between Oasis and Bread. If you can imagine that. And it sounds great. Another songs has got piano and strings and it's got a massive chorus. It's kind of like a Queen song or something. So yeah it's really diverse and I'm really excited about it. It's different to anything the guys have ever done."
