PHIL COLLEN On DEF LEPPARD's Next Studio Album Progress

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen was recently interviewed by the UK press and mentioned the next studio album.

Phil spoke to HMV UK and gave another update on the forthcoming studio album when promoting the current archive releases.

Phil talked about The Story So Far compilation, the tracklist choices, their cover of Personal Jesus, the Christmas song, his highlights of the 2018 tour, when and if they'll retire and the next studio album.

Phil says the work is ongoing on new material with no specific deadline or release date in keeping with all previous mentions.

He also revealed the choice of 'Personal Jesus' was surprisingly Vivian's. Surprising because?...because he once referred to them as "Depressed Toad" during an interview.

Next Album?

"Asking a member of Def Leppard when their next album is coming out?! People should have learned by now! We haven’t got a clue. We have started working on the new one – even last year. We will be doing bits of recording on tour. But no idea when it will be ready as we’ve never met a deadline!."

We All Need Christmas?

"Rick Savage had an idea for a song but he said 'it’s kind of Christmassy!' It was a great song but it did have a Christmas feel about it. We recorded it on tour and we ended up doing the backing vocals in Miami."

Personal Jesus?

"Our producer and sound tech Ronan plays Depeche Mode’s 'Personal Jesus' every day to test the PA. Eventually Vivian said 'How about Personal Jesus?' and we all said 'yeah, alright!' We all jumped on that and agreed so that’s how we ended up recording it."
