Def Leppard performed Promises live on UK TV show TFI Friday 17 years ago on this day in 1999 and video is available.
The show took place on Friday 4th June live from Riverside Studios. Not far from Hammersmith Odeon and beside the River Thames.
The performance was recorded live an hour before broadcast and was the very first 'live' performance by the band on a UK TV show.
It was also many UK fans first exposure to the song which was then released as a Double A-Side single (with 'Back In Your Face') on 12th July.
Around the same time the band recorded three live songs ('Promises', 'Back In Your Face' and 'Goodbye') for Top Of The Pops but due to low chart positions these were never broadcast.
The show ended its run on December 2000 before coming back for a one-off 90 minute special in the UK on Channel 4 TV on 12th June 2015.
The original host Chris Evans (as seen at the start of this video) returned as the presenter.
After the success of this special a one off run of 10 new shows aired from October to December 2015.
