Saturday, 9th April 2016

Heavy Crown 2016.

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell was interviewed last month by Focus On Metal and mentioned the future of Last In Line.

Vivian talked about his first guitar, returning to heavy guitar playing, playing guitar/singing in Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy, Last In Line's history, the Heavy Crown album, songwriting, the new Def Leppard album, Starmaker, buying the Heavy crown album at a store, his time in DIO, Shadow King and the 2016 Def Leppard tour.

Vivian once again says he feels he had very little to do with the new album and talks about his role in the band.

This interview was conducted one week after the Last In Line album came out in late February.

Vivian's part starts at 4:32mins in and lasts until 34 mins.

Focus On Metal - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

A Second Last In Line Album

"I genuinely was so excited to get on to making record number two with Last In Line and now unfortunately we find ourselves at this very bittersweet cross roads. The record was released a week ago and Jimmy died six weeks ago you know. He got the eleventh hour and as you said we sat on the album for a year. We didn't release it deliberately because we all believed in it that much that we wanted to wait our opportunities were there for us to tour and promote it. And it was particularly sad we just got there and Jimmy just didn't quite make it to the finish line."

"So we don't know what the future holds for us but you know at least we got to go out, for Jimmy, he got to go out on this record which he really, really believed in. So much so that he went and got a tattoo. The only tattoo Jimmy Bain had on his body when he died was Last In Line. And he got it in his mid 60s. That's how much he was invested in this band. Very sad."

Buying His Own Last In Line Album

"I did go out and buy it yes. Well you know our record label's in Italy and it's not a big budget kind of a concern. So I know they're sending us a box with some CDs. But maybe it's on a ship somewhere in the middle of the ocean. I don't know. All I know is that the record came out on Friday. Last Friday and on Saturday it suddenly dawned on me I didn't have a copy and I need to go out and buy one."

"So I went out to Best Buy and it was very sad. I mean the record industry's in the toilet. And it's no wonder you can't even find a record. It had only been out for 24 hours and I had to hunt behind. I found it behind Little Wayne on the rap section. Buried at the back of the rack. I mean that's sad. It wasn't even in the Rock section. It wasn't in the New Releases. You know it took me about 15 minutes to find it. It was embarrassing but there you go."

Last In Line Future

"So even if we wanted to do something with Last In Line. It would have to be the end of the year. Likely from October onwards because we were supposed to be on tour right now but it didn't feel right to do it. If that ever happens it wouldn't be before the end of the year."

"Yeah I mean it would be great. It would be lovely to play them you know. It would be sad to not be playing them with Jimmy. But it would be done in his honour if we do."
