Show Intro
Greetings my fellow music lovers and welcome once again to Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Always a pleasure, great to be with you once again for this one hour that I have.
Got some cracking music tonight, starting off with the Von Hertzen Brothers.
Von Hertzen Brothers
Those guys have made some amazing music in the decades that they have been together.
I'm a huge fan.
They are the Von Hertzen Brothers, and we just heard the title track from their album "New Day Rising".
Thin Lizzy
Now, here's a band with a bad reputation.
This is Thin Lizzy.
And before that, Thin Lizzy from 1976, the year they put two studio albums out.
None of these five years between albums nonsense.
These guys just went for it.
Absolutely leathered it in the studio.
I think "Jailbreak" came out in February or March, and that album came out in, what, July, August, maybe September.
It is Thin Lizzy.
The album is "Bad Reputation", and what a great album it is.
The song that we heard, "Soldier of Fortune."
Van Halen
I suppose history will dictate that there are actually two Van Halens.
There's the serious Van Halen with Sammy Hagar, and there's the fun Van Halen with David Lee Roth, and tonight I thought I'd go with the fun one.
They're from the album "Women And Children First" we just heard "Everybody Wants Some".
World Party
Right, here's a band having their own private revolution.
This is World Party.
And before that, World Party from that amazing album "Private Revolution" with "Ship Of Fools."
Thomas Walsh
Now, the star of the show here is a gentleman called Tommy Walsh, who is the leader, frontman, and pretty much sole member of a band called Pugwash.
In fact, that album we just heard a track from, which is called "The Rest Is History", was actually due out and maybe even had a few prints released as a Pugwash album, but eventually it came out as a Tommy Walsh solo album, and it's definitely well worth checking out.
As I said, it is called "The Rest Is History", the song that we heard, "Another Lesson in Life".
You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Coming up, some interesting headwear from Alice Cooper.
Alice Cooper
And before that, we heard Alice Cooper equally brilliant from the 1971 album "Killer" with "Halo of Flies."
Sparks
That has to be one of the greatest suicide pact songs of all time, not that there's many of them I would imagine.
What a wonderful job Russell Mael does interpreting his brother Ron's lyrics.
It's wonderful stuff from their breakthrough album back in 1974, "Kimono My House".
That is Sparks with "Here in Heaven",
Dr. Feelgood
Right, let's head down to Canvey Island right now, shall we, for some wonderful British R&B.
This is Dr. Feelgood.
The song is "Star," and before that, absolutely wonderful stuff from Dr. Feelgood, who I had the great pleasure of seeing live a couple of times at the Sheffield City Hall, proving to the masses that they absolutely were not a pub rock band.
Taken there from their collection "Singled Out", their first-ever single back in 1974, I think it was, "Roxette."
Stealers Wheel
I have no doubt that some of you eagle-eared listeners will have noticed that that's actually Gerry Rafferty singing, yet not a Gerry Rafferty solo song.
From the days when he was in a band with Joe Egan called Stealers Wheel.
Remember those guys had that big hit "Stuck in the Middle with You"?
Well, this was their second hit from an album called "Ferguson Park".
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, is about it for this week.
It's been a real pleasure as always.
I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don't go anywhere.
Until then, I shall leave you with this, talking of debut albums from just a couple of years later.
This is Generation X with "Your Generation."
Until next week, see ya.
