The Joe Elliott Show - 26th September 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening, all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How are you? Great to be with you again. Always a pleasure, but we do only have the 60 minutes or so, one little hour, to play some, in my humble opinion, wonderful music.

So, let's get going, shall we? Let's head off into the valley. This is The Skids.

The Skids

Marvellous stuff there from 1979, from their debut album, Scared to Dance. That is The Skids with Into the Valley.

Be Bop Deluxe

Now, this next band features a gentleman who would go on to produce The Skids' second album. He was a bit of a hero to their guitar player, Stuart Adamson, and later in life became a bit of a mentor.

Check out the guitar solo in this next song for a little bit of influence. This is Be Bop Deluxe.

And before that, we heard Be Bop Deluxe from that wonderful album that is Sunburst Finish, came out in 1976.

The song that we heard, which featured a very bagpipe-esque solo from Bill Nelson, which was a major influence on a very young Stuart Adamson in The Skids, and then later on when he was in Big Country. The song that we heard, Fair Exchange.

Cheap Trick

Marvellous stuff there from Cheap Trick. The album is Dream Police from 1979. The song that we heard, Way of the World.

Hustler

Right then, hands up all of you that saw this lot open for Queen in 1974.

And before that we heard Hustler.

They opened for Queen in 1974, but other than a few club gigs around the London area, it was pretty much it for those guys.

Shame, though, because this song that we just heard was almost a hit for them. It is, of course, Get Out of Me House.

Slade

Showing a side of them that we'd hardly ever heard before, that is Slade.

Wonderful stuff from the soundtrack of the movie Slade in Flame. It is How Does It Feel?.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, we're going to get all Fragile with Yes.

Yes

And before that we heard Yes from 1971. The album is Fragile. What we heard was all eight minutes and 36 seconds of Roundabout.

Genja Ravan

So, the story goes that while Mick Ronson and Ian Hunter were in Studio A recording the 1979 Ellen Foley album Night Out, the lady that we just heard, Genya Ravan — or Genya, depending on how you want to say it — was making her album ...And I Mean It! next door.

And, of course, they would meet in the cafeteria area, no doubt. And she was talking to Mick Ronson, who volunteered his services to play the solo on that particular song, that she was saving as a duet for Van Morrison when he got off tour.

But Mick Ronson, good old Ronno, talked her into having Ian Hunter do it, and what a fantastic result we got.

From the 1979 album ...And I Mean It!, that is Genya Ravan with Junkman.

The Move

Right then, here, with a message from the country, are The Move.

And before that we heard The Move.

This particular line-up of The Move featured Jeff Lynne and, oddly enough, Bev Bevan, the drummer. Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne would all kind of leave The Move to form ELO.

And a little while later, Roy Wood would leave that particular line-up of ELO to form Wizzard.

This is not meant to be a history lesson, just a little bit of idle information for you.

The song that we heard, taken from the album Message from the Country, and I believe it was the last hit that they ever had, Tonight.

Roger Taylor

Yes, I know that I played him last week. I played the new song, Don't Photograph Food, which is a subject matter very close to my heart, and obviously Roger's as well.

But I've heard great reports about this current UK tour, so I thought I would help keep the magic going for just a little longer.

So, there he is once again, this time from his debut solo album back in 1981. The album is Fun in Space, the song that we heard — and what a song — Magic Is Loose.

Show Outro

And that, for tonight, and indeed this week, is about it.

Been a real pleasure, as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, though, so please don't go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this from 1977, from the album of the same name.

This is The Clash with Complete Control.

Until next week, see ya!
