The Joe Elliott Show - 24th January 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Good evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Great to be with you once again.

Coming to you this week all the way from sunny California.

Yes, I’m in Los Angeles, where Def Leppard are rehearsing for our month-long residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Now, where else could I start the show than with this?

It’s a brand new year.

It’s a brand new show.

It’s a brand new song.

Def Leppard

Yes, we’ve made no secret of the fact that we have been recording new material.

We have a new album in the making.

We’re not sure when it’s going to come out.

But it seemed the right thing to do in this day and age.

It’s easy and convenient to be able to just write a song and release a song whenever you feel like it.

And we felt like it.

I thought it was a good idea to put this new song out for the Vegas run.

And I have no doubts that when we start the European tour, which of course includes the UK in June, that we will probably release another new song then.

So it all ties in very nicely.

And this new song, which I’m very excited about, is called Rejoice.

Stone Temple Pilots

Right, well, from Las Vegas and Los Angeles, let’s head over to Shangri-La Dee Da.

This is Stone Temple Pilots.

And before that, Stone Temple Pilots from a wonderful album called Shangri-La Dee Da with Days Of The Week.

Cheap Trick

I’m loving their new album.

In fact, I don’t really think they’ve made a bad one in their entire career.

But this particular album that we just heard a song from is probably my favourite, even more so than things like Dream Police.

It’s just a fantastic album.

It came out in 2008.

The album is The Latest, which it certainly isn’t anymore, because they’ve released at least five or six since then.

It is Cheap Trick, and the song that we heard is Miss Tomorrow.

Bad Company

Now, if you’re a regular reader of the Planet Rock website, you may have seen an article recently where myself and Phil were singing the praises of one Mr. Paul Rodgers.

And why not?

He is indeed one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time.

We were explaining our reasons for our love for Mr. Rodgers, and I thought the best thing to do really was just show what he could do.

So here is Bad Company.

And before that, we heard Bad Company, featuring the incomparable Mr. Paul Rodgers, and also, of course, the late, great Mick Ralphs and the late, great Boz Burrell.

And luckily, still with us, Simon Kirke.

From their third album, Run With The Pack, we heard Honey Child.

Badfinger

That band had the worst juju, in my opinion, of any band ever.

It’s such a tragedy.

If you ever read up about them, you’ll see exactly what I mean.

But they were such a great group.

They are Badfinger, from an album called Straight Up.

They were signed to Apple Records by The Beatles themselves, and the song that we just heard is Day After Day.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

This week, coming to you all the way from Los Angeles in sunny Southern California.

Coming up, it’s Showtime with Mick Ronson.

Mick Ronson

And before that, we heard Mick Ronson from an album called Showtime.

But it’s actually the Ian Hunter–Mick Ronson Band from the 1989–90 tour, the YUIORTA Tour.

When Mick Ronson came up with an entirely new arrangement for a song that he made his own back in 1974.

The song is Slaughter On 10th Avenue.

The Stranglers

I’ve seen that band with many line-ups, but I saw the original line-up many times in the ’70s.

When Hugh Cornwell was fronting the group, what a great show they always put on.

They are The Stranglers.

We just heard Strange Little Girl.

Bruce Springsteen

Well, I started the show off with a brand new Def Leppard song called Rejoice.

So let’s keep that uplifting feeling going, shall we?

This is Bruce Springsteen.

And before that, Bruce Springsteen with the title track from the album The Rising.

Slade

From a movie that was partly shot in Sheffield by a band from Wolverhampton.

I remember it made the Sheffield Star, thinking, “Why are they here?”

And why wasn’t I there?

Because we were in school, and we didn’t find out until the day after.

Very annoying.

It’s Slade, from the album Slade In Flame, with a fantastic tune called How Does It Feel.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, all the way from Los Angeles in California, is about it for this particular show.

Been a real pleasure, as always, especially as I got a chance to open the show with a brand new Def Leppard song.

I will be back with you next week at exactly the same time, all the way from Las Vegas in Nevada, where Def Leppard will be in residency at Caesar’s Palace for the whole month of February.

So until then, I shall leave you with this.

She had a huge hit with a Bruce Springsteen song, since we just played The Boss.

You may remember the song Because The Night.

Well, this, along with her writing partner Fred “Sonic” Smith, is all her own work.

From the album Dream of Life, this is Patti Smith with People Have The Power.

Until next week — see ya!
