Show Intro

"My fellow music lovers and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."

"This week it is coming to you all the way from Los Angeles in California, but I got backtrack to last weekend when we were in Minneapolis, home of the late great Prince."

"What a weekend that was."

"We arrived in on Saturday lunchtime and who had played on the Friday night and would play yet another gig on the Sunday night, none other than Metallica."

"Saturday night in between, Green Day, also Hozier and also on the Sunday night, the Struts."

"Oh, by the way, we did the Monday night, an absolutely crazy weekend of music in Minneapolis."

"And I'm going to reflect on all those bands on tonight's show."

"And as we've already got 60 minutes, I think I should pretty much get on with it."

"But let's start off with this."

"Yes, I am blowing our own trumpet right here."

Def Leppard

"So go on then, Joe, tell us, why are you blowing your own trumpet?."

"I hear you ask from afar."

"Well, the truth is when that song was released about seven, eight weeks ago, it was in digital form only just as a download."

"But this week it has been afforded a physical release and in multiple charts in the UK, it has gone to number one."

"It's an incredible feeling to be able to announce the fact that there's a rock band at the top of the singles chart and the physical singles charts."

"Def Leppard, Just lLike '73, number one, the version featuring Tom Morello on guitar."

"And it's something that we never take for granted when you've been around as long as we have."

"It's such an incredible feeling to think that now and again, you can still top the charts."

"It kind of makes you feel a bit like a rock star, which is a very appropriate introduction for this next song."

The Struts

"This is the Struts."

"And before that, we heard the Struts who are currently touring America promoting their latest album Pretty Vicious, the song that we heard, Rockstar."

"Both of those bands playing in Minneapolis last weekend, and I saw neither of them."

Hozier

"There are artists there who recently topped multiple charts in multiple territories with a brand new song called Too Sweet."

"That is Hozier, but the song that we just heard is a slightly older one from a couple of years ago from an album called Unreal on Earth."

"It's a wonderful bit of work called First Light."

Metallica

"And these next two artists also played in Minneapolis last weekend, and I didn't see them either."

"Starting off with Metallica."

"And before that, we heard Metallica who played the football stadium."

"It's about three-quarters of a mile away."

"Seriously, incredible. I could see both of them out of my hotel window."

"Metallica played on the Friday and on the Sunday night."

"And the song I've chosen is a track that doesn't get that much play, really."

"It's from Garage Inc."

"It's a cover of an old Bob Seeger song."

"And I've chosen this because I remember reading an interview with James Hetfield where he said he wasn't really a big fan of Bob Seger, but he totally bought into the lyric and what it's all about, which is basically traveling all around America in the 70s or in the 80s."

"And you've got long hair and all these people poking fun at you when you're sat having a nice quiet dinner in some rest stop somewhere between Town 1 and Town 2."

"And he bought into it."

"And I can kind of understand why."

"The song that we heard Turn The Page."

Green Day

"That is Green Day who played the baseball stadium on Saturday night, the same venue we would play on the Monday night."

"They're taken from the album American Idiot with Wake Me Up When September Ends."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."

"This week coming to you all the way from Los Angeles in California."

"Coming up, Coverdale Page...(ads played over this bit)."

Coverdale Page

"And before that, Coverdale Page, their one solitary album, which did indeed on that particular track, feature Ricky Phillips on bass, the song that we heard, Easy Does It."

The Babys

"Play those couple of tunes back to back for one very good reason."

"We had a visitation from the bass player on both of those tracks just a few days ago."

"Ricky Phillips, great friend of Def Leppard's for many, many years."

"He was Styx's bass player."

"Every time we've toured with Styx up until a couple of years ago, post-pandemic, he decided it was time to retire from the road."

"And we wish him well, but he's been around a long time."

"I remember first coming across Ricky Phillips when he was a bass player on the song that we just heard."

"When I bought as a kid the Union Jacks album by the band The Babys, which coincidentally also featured at the time, Jonathan Cain, who is now in Journey, the song that we just heard, Midnight Rendezvous."

Journey

"Well, seeing as I just mentioned Jonathan Cain, the keyboard player in Journey, our touring partners, along with the Steve Miller band for this entire summer."

"I think maybe we should give both of those artists a bit of a spin, right?."

"And before that, they are no slouch themselves."

"Journey were really killing it as well on this tour, taking on the album Frontiers with my favorite song that they've ever done, Chain Reaction."

Steve Miller Band

"What a wonderful human being Steve Miller is and what a fantastic band he has and what a great show they put on"

"6 p.m. They go on, play for 60 minutes, every song a hit and the crowd just eat it up."

"It's absolutely fantastic to watch from the side of the stage."

"And there he is from his ultimate hits collection with Jet Airliner."

Show Outro

"And that, my friends, is about it all the way from Los Angeles in California."

"Been a real pleasure as always."

"I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time from San Diego just down the road."

"So until then, let's go out with this."

"Having exhausted just about every artist that's been in my radar for the last little while, we're going to end with something that's got nothing to do with the rest of the show whatsoever."

"Except for the fact that I did receive an email from this gentleman saying check this out."

"And it was a link to a documentary that has already been released in his home country of Finland."

"I did play his band Hanoi Rocks last week, so there's your clue."

"This is Michael Monroe."

"The documentary features the likes of Alice Cooper, Ian Hunter, Slash, Duff McKagan, yours truly."

"And it's going to be well worth watching if you get a chance."

"But until then, let's go out with this wonderful bit of work from his first solo album, Not Faking It."

"This is Dead, Jail or Rock and Roll."

"You tell them, Michael."

"Until next week, see ya!."
