Show Intro
"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."
"It is a supreme pleasure once again to be with you."
"I can't believe it's been a week since we did this but it has and I've only got an hour, 60 tiny little minutes."
"So let's crack on."
"Now we all know that Christmas is coming and do forgive me I know that it is only like mid to late November right now."
"But we all know Christmas is Slade and Wizard and Greg Lake and The Darkness and John Lennon and Paul McCartney and Elton John and blah blah blah blah blah."
"Why not add another one to that mix?."
"We could do with something to freshen up that little list couldn't we?."
"Why can't it be this?."
"This is brand new Ricky Warwick."
Ricky Warwick
"Yes that is your humble correspondent yodeling away on the chorus as I actually recorded my part on that particular song last summer as did Ricky for the most part on that song as well."
"And I even shot my part on the video in my hotel room in Texas in the middle of a massive heat storm on the last Def Leppard tour."
"But that's what you have to do with Christmas songs they have to be recorded well in advance."
"I remember reading a great story from Noddy Holder where he said that Slade were ensconced in a studio in New York in the middle of summer it was like 105 degrees while they were singing Merry Christmas Everybody."
"Let's just hope that this new one here tickles the charts because it would be nice to add a new song to that never growing list of great rock Christmas tunes that have been around for 50 plus years."
"This has got to be a contender it's a wonderful bit of work."
"It is Ricky Warwick it is All I Want For Christmas Is Christmas."
Queen
"Well all I want for Christmas I already have so let's listen to another track from it."
"This is Queen."
"And before that as you know raving about this consistently I am."
"Queen one remixed."
"It's just ridiculously fantastic thank you to Roger and Brian for doing this."
"And of course off in the background John Deacon and big hugs and kisses to the memory of Freddie Mercury."
"But it's just a fantastic piece of work."
"I highly recommend that you get it."
"The song we just heard Great King Rat."
David Coverdale
"Well Santa came early to Elliott Towers this week because I'd been away for a few days and when I came back there was a package on the doorstep from Lord Coverdale."
"And it's the 2024 remix of his second solo album back in 1978."
"The album is called Northwinds he's kind of redressed it as a Whitesnake record really because why not he is Whitesnake to be quite honest."
"And it's superb if you're a fan of that record wait till you hear the new remix."
"It really is cool and I'm really getting into these new remixes of albums that are 45 maybe 50 years old."
"Stunning stuff."
"The song that we just heard Shame The Devil, Tell The Truth."
Mamas Boys
"Well seeing as I'm all cozied up on the Emerald Isle let's listen to a couple of songs back to back from this side of the Irish Sea."
"Starting off with the Mamma's Boys."
"And before that Mamma's Boys this is a lick this guitar lick at the beginning of the song has been bugging me for years."
"And I remember ringing Vivian and saying, I sang it down the phone, I said who is this this is an Irish band isn't it."
"He said yeah it's Mamma's Boys."
"And I went that's it I remember now and I'm going back about 10 years when this happened."
"It was stuck in my head for so long I couldn't remember who it was but it's a brilliant bit of work and I'm glad I've kind of rediscovered who it was so I can enjoy it."
"It is the Mamma's Boys from their album Plug It In with a song called Needle In The Groove."
Thin Lizzy
"The album is out on the 25th of January next year which just happens to be my mum's 93rd birthday."
"So happy birthday mum in advance."
"Maybe I'll buy her a copy because I think she'd really like this."
"It's been advertised as the first Lizzy album in 40 years but it is essentially reworks of their early work which featured of course Eric Bell on guitar."
"And he's done some new overdubs on this."
"Brian Downey on drums and the late great Phil Lynott."
"And there are alternative vocals as well."
"What we just heard is the first thing that we all ever heard from Thin Lizzy but the acoustic version of their 1973 breakthrough single if you like Whisky In The Jar."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."
"Coming up, we're going all prog-tastic starting with...
Marillion
"And before that Marillion from the 2020 remix, which is stunning by the way."
"We heard the title track Script For A Jester's Tear."
Jethro Tull
"I have loved that band since I first heard them back in 1968 with Living In The Past."
"It is Jethro Tull from the 40th anniversary version of their album War Child with Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Da."
Sensational Alex Harvey Band
"Right then prepare yourselves for a late night parting of the waves."
"This is the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."
"And before that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band from their debut album back in 1972 Framed with Midnight Moses."
Sex Pistols
"Well they did some charity shows earlier this year but they are now fully fledged going out there next summer."
"And why not they've got a new singer Frank Carter."
"It never did Journey or Van Halen any harm did it when they went out with a different singer."
"And if you're a fan of punk rock you just want to hear Cookey and Matlock and Jonesy do their thing."
"And what I've seen on YouTube is pretty good."
"But that's the original version of course featuring Johnny Rotten aka Johnny Lydon from the album Never Mind the Bollocks."
"We just heard the Sex Pistols with God Save The Queen."
Show Outro
"And that my dear friends is about it for this week."
"It's been a real pleasure as always."
"I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time so please don't go anywhere."
"Until then I should leave you with this."
"We started off with a Christmas song and I have no doubt between now and the end of the year we're gonna hear this band's big Christmas tune quite often."
"So I thought I'd play something else instead."
"This is the first thing I ever heard from this band when I was about 12 years old."
"And what a wonderful bit of work it is from their Feel The Noise greatest hits collection."
"This is Slade with Get Down And Get With It."
"Until next week, see ya!."
