Show Intro
Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Once again, coming to you from Las Vegas, where Def Leppard are in residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
Eight shows in, four to go.
Two-thirds of the way through, having an absolute blast, as I hope you guys will do for the next hour or so.
We're going to get this show started with this beauty from an album that was 52 years old this week.
Deep Purple
Yes, released on the 15th of February 1974, so happy 52nd birthday to an album which was the first one to feature Lord Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.
It is Deep Purple.
We heard the title track, “Burn.”
Andy Taylor
Okay, so where in the collective rock and roll universe do Montrose and Duran Duran meet?
Well, right here.
This is Andy Taylor.
And before that, we heard Andy Taylor, once of course of Duran Duran, but from his solo album.
I think it was his first ever solo album, called Dangerous, where he did a bunch of covers, including “Violence” by Mott the Hoople.
We just heard his take on the Montrose classic, “Space Station No. 5.”
The Struts
I play that not just because I'm a big fan of the band, but because they came to see us just the other night.
They were in town, so they came along.
We now share the same management.
So I will be seeing those guys a lot more in the coming weeks, months, and years, no doubt.
It is The Struts from the Redux version of the album Everybody Wants, with “Could've Been Me.”
Live
Well, let's take you back to the ’90s for a couple of tracks, shall we?
Let's throw some Throwing Copper with Live.
And before that, from a wonderful album called Throwing Copper, we heard the band Live with “I Alone.”
Nirvana
I suppose the agenda for ’90s bands was to destroy the ’80s bands, and for the most part they did.
Luckily, fingers crossed and thank you very much, some of us survived.
But it doesn't mean that those ’80s bands hated what happened in the ’90s.
I'm very much a fan of a lot of that music, including the two bands that we just heard.
Nirvana there from the album In Utero.
We heard “All Apologies.”
You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Once again, coming to you from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where the Mighty Leps are in residency.
Coming up, we're going to have a little bit of Tenderness from Duff McKagan.
Duff McKagan
And before that, we heard Duff McKagan from his most recent solo album, I believe about four or five years ago.
The album is Tenderness.
The song we heard was “Don't Look Behind You.”
Nickel Creek
I love that song so much.
It's a band called Nickel Creek from an album called Why Should the Fire Die?
I saw that song live at a club in LA in 2004, played by a band called The Mutual Admiration Society.
It featured members of Nickel Creek and John Paul Jones on bass guitar.
That night they played “Gallows Pole” and the song that we just heard, which is called “When in Rome.”
It was a great gig.
Kristeen Young
Right, let's shake it up a bit, shall we?
This is Kristeen Young.
And before that, obviously with the greatest of respect, wearing her Kate Bush hat, there's a lady called Kristeen Young from an album called Music for Strippers, Hookers and the Odd Onlooker.
Great title.
The song, “Son of Man.”
Muse
I haven't played her for a while, so I thought I'd give her a spin.
It's Muse, of course, from the album Drones, with a wonderful piece of work called “Reapers.”
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, all the way once again from Las Vegas, Nevada, at Caesars Palace, where we are in a residency, that's about it for this particular show.
It's been a real pleasure, as always.
I shall be back with you next week for the last time from Vegas at exactly the same time.
So please don't go anywhere.
Until then, I shall leave you with this masterful piece of work from the album Clockwork Angels.
This is Rush with “The Anarchist.”
Until next week.
See ya.
