The Joe Elliott Show - 20th June 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Good evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How are you? Great to be with you. I am coming to you, and this particular show, all the way from Brussels, Belgium.

It's a day off today, but tomorrow is a huge festival called Graspop, which is about 60 miles from here at a place called Dessel. It's going to feature the likes of Foreigner, Europe, and the mighty Alice Cooper, so I'm really looking forward to that.

And I'm looking forward to the next 60 minutes as well, because we do have some great music lined up for you. Seeing as we are actually in Belgium, where else could I start but right here?

So, with the flick of a switch, here's AC/DC.

AC/DC

Well, let's hope there's some bedlam tomorrow, because it is a great line-up for the Sunday night of this particular festival.

That was AC/DC, taken from the album Flick of the Switch, with "Bedlam in Belgium."

Ian Hunter

Right, with some advice on what kind of intuition you should be listening to, here's Ian Hunter.

And before that, from his comeback album — I suppose it was his first album in six years — and it's actually credited to Hunter & Ronson. From 1989, the album is YUI Orta, and the song we heard was "Women's Intuition."

Be Bop Deluxe

Wakefield's finest right there. That is Be-Bop Deluxe from their 1975 album Futurama, but it is in fact the 2018 new stereo remix from that album. The song is "Music in Dreamland."

Paul McCartney

Right then, let's go visit the boys of Dungeon Lane. This is brand-new Paul McCartney.

Before that, we heard brand-new Paul McCartney. The album is called Boys of Dungeon Lane. It was produced by Andrew Watt, who has also produced the upcoming Rolling Stones album, as he did their previous album in 2023, Hackney Diamonds.

The song that we just heard was "Mountain Top."

The Psychedelic Furs

I saw those guys live about six or seven years ago at the Academy in Dublin, and they were absolutely fantastic. The crowd totally ate them up. Absolutely great live band.

They are The Psychedelic Furs, and taken from the album Talk Talk Talk, we just had "Dumb Waiters."

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock, this week coming to you all the way from Brussels, Belgium.

Coming up, we're going to go out interstellar with Mike.

Michael Monroe

Before that, you heard Michael Monroe, once the singer of course in Hanoi Rocks, who just happened to come visit Def Leppard when we played in Helsinki just a few days ago.

As he was just about to leave and the clock struck twelve, it was his birthday, so I sang him "Happy Birthday." He's a great guy, Michael. I've known him for a long, long time.

I was a huge fan of Hanoi Rocks, and I'm a huge fan of his solo material as well. There, from his latest album I Live Too Fast to Die Young!, we just had all seven minutes and 41 seconds of "One More Sunrise."

New York Dolls

Yes, I thought I'd play those two songs back-to-back because New York Dolls — that is them that we just heard — were a huge influence on a lot of '80s bands, specifically Hanoi Rocks.

So there you've got New York Dolls, from the album of the same name, with "Jet Boy."

Public Image Limited

Okay, so when Johnny Rotten became John Lydon, we could say that he changed his public image.

And before that, we heard Public Image Ltd. with "Public Image."

The Pretenders

I remember seeing those guys in 1982 at the Dominion Theatre in Tottenham Court Road. We actually stole their sound engineer, so sorry about that, Chrissy.

But we needed somebody for the Pyromania tour, and he did a fantastic job.

That particular night, they sounded amazing. They always did whenever I've seen them live, and we've done some gigs with them in the past. They're still a great, great band.

She's a fantastic front person. It's Chrissie Hynde. That is The Pretenders, from the album of the same name, with "Tattooed Love Boys."

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, that's about it for this particular show. It's been a real pleasure, as always.

I should be back with you next week at exactly the same time from home, because I shall be in between gigs in Belfast and Glasgow. So I should be nipping back down to Dublin for the day, just to check on the mail, etc.

So until then, I shall leave you with this. From 1975, the album is Play Don't Worry. It is Mick Ronson, featuring Ian Hunter on backing vocals, with his amazing take on the Little Richard tune "The Girl Can't Help It."

Until next week, see ya.
