Show Intro
Greetings, my fellow music lovers, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show.
Right here on, you know where — the wonderful Planet Rock. How are you doing?
Great to be with you once again. We have, in my humble opinion, 60 minutes of some great tunes tonight.
Starting off with this long-lost classic by Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin
Recorded during the In Through the Out Door sessions, but not actually released until 1982’s posthumous album Coda, that is Led Zeppelin with “Wearing and Tearing.”
Sparks
Now, here’s one of those bands whose B-sides were arguably as good as their A-sides back in the day. This is Sparks.
And before that, we heard Sparks.
Nowadays, you can find it as a bonus track on any re-release of their 1974 album Come On In My House.
But back in 1974, it was the B-side of the second single from their album Amateur Hour — the song we just heard, “Lost and Found.”
Punishment Of Luxury
To their friends, they’re known as Punishment of Luxury, but I’ve never actually met them, so I shall be more formal. They are A Punishment of Luxury.
And what we just heard there is the title track of their complete recordings box set, Puppet Life — and what a song.
Supertramp
Right then, from the album that is the legend, Crisis? What Crisis? — this is Supertramp.
And before that, we heard Supertramp, from the follow-up to their breakthrough album Crime of the Century.
That album is Crisis? What Crisis?, and the song we heard, “Lady.”
Yes
Ah, I still have the 12-inch single of that particular tune, and what a tune it is.
Yes, it’s from the album Going for the One. The song we heard, “Wondrous Stories.”
You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Coming up, we’re going all bonkazoid with the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Sensational Alex Harvey Band
And before that, I did introduce it as bonkazoid — and it truly is.
It’s the Sensational Alex Harvey Band from the album Tomorrow Belongs to Me, with “The Tale of the Giant Stone Eater.”
Bronco
Now, I first discovered this song on an Island compilation album many, many years ago.
It was either LP or Bumpers — it doesn’t matter.
The fact is, it’s a great band called Bronco, featuring the wonderful vocals of Jess Roden.
And with a deeper dive into the song, also guest performances from Mott the Hoople members — Ian Hunter on piano and, get this, Mick Ralphs on organ.
Who knew? The album is Ace of Sunlight, the song we heard, “Amber Moon.”
Rush
Now, this next band loved to make waves, and they were absolutely permanent… until they weren’t.
But then again, this year, they are — this is Rush.
And before that, we heard Rush, back out on the road in 2026, when we all thought we’d seen the end of them in 2017 — and especially a few years later, after the passing of the late, great Neil Peart.
But no, they’ve decided to give it another go. They put a few dates on sale, and those few dates have turned into a lot of dates, because the demand is just growing and growing.
And their new drummer — I believe you pronounce her name Anika Nilles — so really looking forward to seeing them if I get a chance this year.
But we just heard them there on record from the 40th anniversary re-release of the album Permanent Waves — we heard “Entre Nous.”
Cheap Trick
Now, if you’re a regular listener to my show, you’ll be sick to death of the fact that I’m often citing that band as one of my favourite groups of all time.
Well, it’s true — it’s never going to change, so let’s just get used to it.
It is Cheap Trick, from the 1988 album Lap of Luxury, with a beautiful song called “All We Need Is a Dream.”
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, is about it for this particular show. Been a real pleasure as always.
I shall be back with you next week, as usual, at exactly the same time, so please don’t go anywhere.
Until then, I shall leave you with this, from the 1971 classic album Who’s Next.
This is indeed The Who, with the Steven Wilson remix of “Baba O’Riley.”
Until next week — see ya!
