Show Intro

"Evening all, and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you as always. What have we got tonight? 60 minutes of wonderful music in my humble opinion. No, we are not talking about bad music. We ain't talking about love. We are talking Van Halen."

Van Halen

"As I've mentioned often, I saw them at the Sheffield City Hall back in 1978, opening for Black Sabbath, and they were absolutely stunning. There from their debut album, it is Van Halen Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love."

Judas Priest

"Now here's another band that I saw at the Sheffield City Hall on many occasions. This is Judas Priest."

"And before that we heard Judas Priest, bonus track these days, on the album Sin After Sin. But at the time, a standalone single in I believe 1978, we heard Starbreaker."

Nazareth

"Boy, did he have a set of pipes on him, that Dan McCafferty. Wonderful stuff there from Nazareth. Taken from their greatest hits album, it's an old Yardbirds tune called Shapes Of Things, with a lovely bit of work called Space Safari tagged on the end."

Julian Lennon

"Now sometimes when the offspring of a very famous musician decides to go along the same path, it's very difficult to get out from under the shadow, but you can't blame them for trying. And here's a guy that's been doing it all his life, but he's been doing a great job. This is Julian Lennon."

"And before that proving that often the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, we heard Julian Lennon with Day After Day."

Foo Fighters

"From one of the greatest bit of works that they ever did in my humble opinion, that is the Foo Fighters from the album Medicine at Midnight with Waiting On A War."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock, coming up. Well, it's January and you know what that means."

Magnum

"And before that, we heard Magnum, who lost Tony Clarkin this week. He wrote so many songs for Magnum, he must have written two, three, four hundred songs for Magnum. They opened for Def Leppard on the On Through The Night tour and I was buying their records in 1977. I remember hearing on I think the Tommy Vance Show, or maybe it was Alan Fluff Freeman. The first time I ever heard them was from their debut album in 77, Kingdom of Madness. So I thought I'd play something from that particular album in the beginning. So rest in peace, James Kottak and Tony Clarkin. Can't wait to see the back of January, which is something that I say every year."

Kingdom Come

"What is it with January, huh? Steve, Philo, Bowie, Buffin. The list is endless and now add two more to that list. James Kottak passed away this week at the insanely young age of 61. The longest serving drummer in the Scorpions, longer even than Herman Rarebell, who's possibly more famous than James. Great drummer and I thought instead of playing some Scorpions stuff, I wanted to play some music that I first heard him on. The insanely Led Zeppelin-esque Kingdom Come. The album was released in 1987, I believe it was, on a white label to all the radio stations in America, because they'd actually thought maybe they don't think it's a new Led Zeppelin record because it sounded so much like Zeppelin. Of course, the news leaked out that it wasn't, but it did sell a million copies in one month and that really shot off his fantastic talents. The song that we just heard was Get It On."

The Clash

"And before that, we heard The Clash from 1982. The album is Combat Rock, the song we heard. Should I Stay Or Should I Go?,"

Collective Soul

"Right, so onwards and upwards. Stick or twist? This is The Clash. Been a big fan of that band ever since I first heard them. That is Collective Soul from an album called Dosage with a song called Heavy."

Show Outro

"And that, my friends, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So until then, don't touch that dial. Where else would you want to be? I shall leave you with this beauty from 1973. From the album Aladdin Sane, this is David Bowie with his take on the old Rolling Stones classic. Let's Spend The Night Together. Until next week, see ya!."
