Show Intro
"Greetings one and all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the magnificent Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again. We've got sixty minutes of you know what lined up for ya. Starting off with some lock down love. Yes this song was recorded in lock down. Released in lock down. And it's all about being in lock down. This is The Struts."
The Struts
"Yes and as Luke Spiller rides off into the sunset on his Harley Davidson. Rub it in why don't you Luke. Actually in fairness it's more of a metaphorical ride into the sun because they were in lock down so the chances are that they recorded the sound of that Harvey Davidson revving its engine up under very strict lock down conditions. It is The Struts from their latest album Strange Days. And just like you and I they were All Dressed Up (With Nowhere To Go)."
Alice Cooper
"Now if you were tuned in last week you may well remember that I dedicated a song to the mighty coop. Yes Alice Cooper had just enjoyed his let's call it 21st birthday again. And no doubt enjoying lots of presents from friends and family. He also decided to give himself a present. Well this is it."
"Before that we heard Alice Cooper's birthday present to himself. From the remaining members of the original line up of Alice Cooper which existed from like '68 to '74. The album coming out this month is Detroit Stories. The song we heard Social Debris."
The Hotrats
"That my friends is a band called The Hotrats. Which was a side project of two members of the new defunct band Supergrass. namely Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey. They decided to record a bunch of cover tunes. The album is called The Turn-Ons. It's a bit of a tribute to David Bowie's covers album Pin-Ups. Which itself inspired Def Leppard to record a covers album called YEAH!. The tenth anniversary re-release of this album Turn-Ons has also got a bunch of live versions and even instrumental versions of the original release which was over ten years ago now. The song we just heard is a Kinks track called Big Sky. Great version adn we shall be hearing from The Kinks later on in the show."
The Rolling Stones
"So from a brand new song from the original members of a classic 70s band to a long lost song. 47 years never saw the light of day. Finally came out on the re-release of Goats Head Soup. This is The Rolling Stones."
"And before that The Rolling Stones from the deluxe re-release of the album Goats Head Soup. Originally release in 1973 I believe it was. The song never saw the light of day before this re-release. Why, it's brilliant. It is Criss Cross.
Elton John
"From one of the greatest double albums ever released. When that phrase made sense. Yes it's that good. It is Elton John from 1973. The album is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The song Grey Seal."
"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, we're hopping over the channel The Psychedelic Furs."
The Psychedelic Furs
"And before that The Psychedelic Furs from their eponymously named debut album with Sister Europe."
The Kinks
"I mentioned earlier in the show that we were gonna be listening to The Kinks and we just did kind of because it's a strange story this one. But this song we just heard was actually originally released as a Dave Davis solo single but it did end up on a Kinks album. And it is indeed these days found on The Kinks Chronicles. So let's call it The Kinks even though it was originally released by Dave Davis as a solo song. The song is Death Of A Clown."
Bruce Springsteen
"Right then let's take a little trip over from Europe to New Jersey that'll do. This is The Boss."
"And before that Bruce Springsteen from his latest album Letter To You with Ghosts."
Ian Hunter
"Two absolutely sensational songwriters there back to back. You could say the British boss and the American boss. We just heard Ian Hunter from the album All American Alien Boy way back in 1976 with Apathy '83."
The Stranglers
"Right then it's time to take it down. Right down. I mean into the sewers down. This is The Stranglers."
"And before that The Stranglers from their debut album in 1977. The album is Rattus Norvegicus and the song we heard London Lady."
Aerosmith
"Written as one of those songs that you just end the set with because well that's what it is. It's a set ender. It is Aerosmith from the album Rocks with Home Tonight."
Show Outro
"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at, guess what. Yes exactly the same time with more of the same only just a little bit different."
"So until then I'll leave you with this and this is very different. This is the first time I have ever played this band. From a collection called The Last Temptation Of Elvis this is The Cramps and their far out man version of Jailhouse Rock. Until next week see ya."
