The Joe Elliott Show - 13th December 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How you doing? The nights are drawing in. We are getting close to the shortest day of the year. You know what that means though, don’t you?

It means that every week it gets brighter by about twenty minutes a week, and I love that part of the year.

We are on our way into Christmas. I’m not going to play any Christmas music — it’s way too early. I might play a few next week.

But this week, I’ve got some great tunes lined up, including this beauty to start the show off.

This is The Runaways.

The Runaways

I saw them live at Sheffield University back in 1977, when they were all mere teenagers. I believe the oldest one of them at the time was 18 — that would have been Lita Ford, who we actually toured with. We toured with Joan Jett many times as well.

So individually, I got to know a couple of them. Collectively though, when I saw them… well, you know what it’s like when you’re sixteen, watching a bunch of seventeen-year-old girls rocking and rolling on stage. It was a sight to behold, would be a polite way of putting it.

From their debut album of the same name, that is The Runaways with “Cherry Bomb.”

The Who

Right, it’s time to say a hearty congratulations — and well deserved too — to Sir Roger Daltrey.

This is The Who.

And before that, we heard The Who. Congratulations to Sir Roger Daltrey, as he shall be known from now on by you and I. From that magnificent album Quadrophenia, we heard “5:15.”

Bryan Ferry

Breaking away from Roxy Music, as he would do on occasion, to go solo. That is Bryan Ferry, from an album called In Your Mind. The song is “This Is Tomorrow.”

Extreme

Well, I know I played this crowd last week, but I’m going to play them again this week because, since the last show, I discovered that they’ve released some new music — which I’m hoping they will play when they tour with us next summer.

This, once again, is Extreme.

And before that, we heard Extreme. It’s their brand-new song. Hopefully they’ll play it next summer when they tour the UK with Def Leppard. We will see, won’t we?

The song that we heard, as I said, brand new, is called “Here’s to the Losers.”

Faces

It’s amazing how much the guitar tone on that particular song sounds like the Jeff Beck Group, which at the time featured Rod Stewart on vocals and Ronnie Wood on bass.

But that is Ronnie Wood on lead and rhythm guitar, and the rhythm sound is very similar to the Jeff Beck Group. But it is Faces, from their debut album First Step, with “Flying.”

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, that other band that Ronnie Wood plays with.

The Rolling Stones

And before that, The Rolling Stones, from their last album in 2023. The album is Hackney Diamonds. The song, featuring Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga, is “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.”

The Beatles

The two biggest bands from the sixties, back-to-back, who still hold court in many people’s hearts.

That is The Beatles, from the 1967–1970 remixed version of the album, which came out a couple of years ago. The song we heard was “Now and Then.”

Atomic Rooster

Right then, here’s a couple of really, really cool instrumental tracks.

Starting off with Atomic Rooster.

And before that, we heard Atomic Rooster, born out of the ashes of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and for a little while featuring Carl Palmer on drums from Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I believe that role was taken over by his younger brother, if my memory serves me correctly.

Taken from a collection called Sleeping for Years, we just heard “The Rock.”

Faith No More

Back in the long-off distant days of the Adrenalize tour — which is, what, thirty-three years ago now — Def Leppard used to use that as walk-out music, because we thought it was such a cool version.

It is Faith No More, from their album Angel Dust, with “Midnight Cowboy.”

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, that is about it for this particular week. It’s been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please do not go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this, from the collection Puppet Life: The Complete Recordings. This is Punishment of Luxury with the title track of said box set, “Puppet Life.”

Until next week - see ya.
