Show Intro

"Evening all welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on, you guessed it, the wonderful Planet Rock. This week coming to you all the way from New Jersey on the East Coast of the USA. Pretty chilly over here I've gotta say it is too. We're here because we're in town with our good buddies Motley Crue for what you might call a couple of warm-up shows. We're getting the ring rust off and they are breaking in their new guitarist John 5. Just in time for next week's start of the South American tour which happens to begin in Mexico City. More on that later on. I am very honoured and I'm very happy to be able to start this week's show off with this particular band. Featuring this particular singer Danny Bowes, he's back on the radio. This is Thunder."

Thunder

"Yes I think we all should scream out a loud big hooray collectively to acknowledge the fact that Danny Bowes is making a pretty good recovery from what seemed to be a horrific accident. As he said in his first show back for Planet Rock, it's unlikely that we're gonna see him on stage any time soon. But he is at least making a comeback by doing his radio show. So welcome back Danny. You're very very welcome. Glad to see that you;re making a bit of a recovery and there he is in all his splendour. What a voice that man he as well. It is Thunder from the album Dopamine. Or Dopamine, however you see it. The song we heard Across The Nation."

Bruce Springsteen

"Right well as I said at the top of the show we are indeed in New Jersey. Home of you know who and you know who."

"And before that are you old enough to remember a stunning version of the song that we heard before Bon Jovi. Once featured on The Old Grey Whistle Test. It had an incredible play off between Bruce Springsteen and his saxophonist Clarence Clemons. And that of course is Springsteen and the E Street band. From an album called The Wild, The Innocent And The E Street Shuffle. We just heard that wonderful bit of work called Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)."

Bon Jovi

"I first came across those guys in person when we did some shows together on the Monsters Of Rock tour of Europe in 1986. And me and Jon have been mates ever since. They are of course Bon Jovi. From that wonderful album Keep The Faith we just heard the title track."

Nirvana (UK)

"Right then this is Nirvana. Honest."

"And before that yes they were called Nirvana. From the late 60s. It's taken from a compilation album put out by Island Records in 1968 called You Can All Join In. The song we heard Rainbow Chaser."

Jet

"Couple of bands back to back there with names that are echoes of the past if you like. In other words names of bands that would come and be much much bigger further down the road. We just heard Jet. Not the Australian Jet but the Jet UK if you want. From a compilation called Nothing To Do With Us. Sounding a lot, I mean a lot like Sparks. But it's great stuff. It is a song called Start Here."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week coming to you all the way from New Jersey in the USA. Coming up, lock your doors, it's Peter Gabriel."

Peter Gabriel

"And before that we heard Peter Gabriel from the album Pete Gabriel. Now I know I played a Peter Gabriel song last week from the album Peter Gabriel, but it's a different album. The first three albums were all called Peter Gabriel. And I think to his fans they've become known as the rainy car, the melt and the scratch albums. Or something along those lines. But the song that we just heard is a great tune. Intruder."

David Bowie

"If you're a fan of David Bowie's early work. Specifically the 1971 album Hunky Dory, then you have, if you haven't already, you have to get hold of a copy of the box set that is Devine Symmetry. It's a stunning collection of demos, alternative versions and songs that didn't make the album Hunky Dory. What we just heard there is a 2021 mix I think by Ken Scott the original producer of the album. Alternative vocal version of the song Quicksand."

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"Now here with a song lyrically is a cross between The Jungle Book and King Kong are Scotland's finest. This is the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."

"And before that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Or to their best mates SAHB. From the album Penthouse Tapes we heard Jungle Jenny."

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

"I played a track last week by Mike Campbell And The Dirty Knobs which just put his original band, not Mudcrutch. But the band that made him successful if you like. As wingman to Tom Petty. Put them in my mind. I wanted to play something this week. Thank goodness for the back catalogue that is Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers 'cause there's an absolute just goldmine of music. And there from the album Damn The Torpedoes we just heard Even The Losers."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from a very chilly New Jersey in the USA, is about it for this week. It's been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. All the way from Mexico City which is about a mile and a half above sea level. So forgive me if I sound a little breathless.

"So until then I shall leave you with this. From the album All Through The City. This is Dr. Feelgood and Roxette. Till next week see ya!."
