Def Leppard played a show in Mumbai, India earlier today with 20 songs performed.

The show took place at the 10,000+ capacity Jio World Garden.

The band's first ever live show in Mumbai.

The second of three shows on the 2026 debut tour of India.

Def Leppard In Mumbai 1998

It might have been time for their first ever LIVE show in the city but as mentioned they performed here in the late 90s.

Before playing in New Delhi at the Channel [v] Music Awards show on 21st November 1998 (and getting a Lifetime Achievement award) they played a private show in Mumbai.

On 19th November 1998 they played a 35 minute show at the Leela Kempinski Hotel which was sponsored by Pepsi.

And here is an online quote about the show from January 1999 by ex-Tour Manager Malvin Mortimer:

"The India trip was a great success, we played 5 songs for 1000 invited guests at a hotel; It was amazing."

The five songs were - 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Animal', 'Love Bites', 'Armageddon It' and 'Let's Get Rocked' - all playback.

But now in 2026 it was time for a fully LIVE concert.

Live In Mumbai 2026

28 years later they flew into Mumbai on the 21st March to start their first live tour of this country.

And after kicking things off in Shillong with a triumphant show they have made the trip back here.

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) in Maharashtra state.

The location of the show an "open-air turfed" venue called Jio World Garden within the Bandra Kurla Complex.

In the Bandra East area of Mumbai and not far from the Mithi River.

A venue that looks a bit like a cricket field and a massive building behind where the stage was set up.

A slightly different design than the one in Shillong and also made to look much smaller by the gigantic 19 storey 'The Capital' building behind it.

A building that has a large circular shape in the middle that looks like a huge glass eye.

Anyone inside and looking down on things had a great view of the venue.

Plenty of sunshine as they set the stage up here.

And temperatures around 33C/91F for today, a hot one for the band and the crowd.

Support Band Indus Creed

Indus Creed were named as the support band for this show.

An Indian rock band who are from Mumbai and formed back in 1984 as Rock Machine before renaming in 1993.

They spilt up in 1997 but have been reformed since 2010.

The band are - Uday Benegal (lead vocals), Mahesh Tinaikar (guitars), Zubin Balaporia (keyboards), Krishna Jhaveri (bass), Jai Row Kavi (drums).

They played a short set starting at 6:30pm local time.

Namaste Mumbai!

A second show in India scheduled for an 8pm start.

But like many of the 2025 '8pm start time' casino shows of 2025, this one also started around ten minutes later at 8:10pm.

And when it did begin, like Shillong, it was time for Mumbai to Rejoice!.

The current 'new' single kicking things off again in fine style with the Vegas intro (minus The Colosseum visual).

Then straight into 'Animal' before Joe greeted the big crowd for the first time.

Lots of videos posted online and lots of singing from the crowd.

Joe thanking Mumbai for waiting 'only' 49 years for them to finally play here.

'Personal Jesus', 'Heartbreak/Switch 625' and all the other hits followed along with the epic 'White Lightning'.

Joe again asking the crowd - "You ready for a bit of fun?." before a bouncing 'Slang'.

And just before the usual last two song encore of 'Hysteria' and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' something a little bit different for the 2026 setlist.

Two Steps Behind (By Request)

The sight of Joe with an acoustic guitar appeared and more video clips revealed Joe played the short solo version of the song.

Not played since 15th October in Las Vegas at the final show of 2025.

Joe explaining that the band have been getting 'many many many' requests to play it.

So he decided to give in and add it as a special treat for Mumbai.

Explaining that - "I'm gonna do this for you guys." and that "I'm gonna need a lot of help on this.".

And politely encouraged them to sing - "every f***ing word" - which they did!.

Loud singing from all for this extra acoustic tune.

And (correcting something from the last Show Report) it seems Joe is doing the full intro of Sav for 'Rock On' which you can read/see below (cut out of the video 'listened' to only from Shillong...).

And before doing so Joe mentioned how he "would have laughed" if someone had told him they'd be on stage 49 years later in Mumbai, India at the time they formed the band.

But here they were.

The second of three shows now played and the mini tour of India almost over when it seems like it only just began.

They have now played LIVE in Mumbai after previously doing TV playback perfmances (acknowledged onstage by Joe) and time for another city to get rocked.

Until next time in Bengaluru!.

20 Song Setlist

'Rejoice' and all other songs played live in Mumbai for the first time.

'Two Steps Behind' added as an extra song with only Joe playing.

Mumbai History

A playback private promo show took place in Mumbai in November 1998.

The only previous performance in this city and not live.

Five songs were played and all of those were played again electrically at this show.

Today's show was the first live performance in Mumbai.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Bengaluru, India on 29th March, the final show of the tour.

"We said no - they said "no please please play it"."

"We said we're not doing it on this tour."

"They said 'But please please f***ing play it!'."

"So tonight while the rest of the guys are getting ready for whatever, I'm gonna do this for you guys."

"Just you and me okay."

"I'm gonna need a lot of help on this."

"A lot of help, can you do that?."

"If you do know it we want you to sing it, every f***ing word okay?!."

"Alright."

"We love ya good night!."
