Joe Elliott/Torg And Elliott - May 2022 Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)
The Stadium Tour Preperation
Joe Elliott - "I started prepping for this tour about for weeks ago. I like to be ahead of the game."
Joe Elliott - "There's nothing worse than walking into a rehearsal room and going 'I haven't sung for two years. Not the way to work'."
Joe Elliott - "I'm actually, when I'm not talking to guys like yourself, I'm downstairs yodelling away with my little four track zoombox I've got that's got all the songs on. And it's like rehearsing with the band but they're just not here."
Joe Elliott - "It's kind of like the way we made the album."
Will Phil have his shirt off on stage?
Joe Elliott - "I would imagine yeah. He doesn't really wear shirts these days unless he's got a wedding or a funeral or a christening. The odd photo shoot. Or maybe a gig in Siberia where it's like 16 below freezing. He'd probably wear a coat."
Joe Elliott - "But in the summer time. Yeah I can see the shirt, maybe he'll walk on wiht one, but by the solo it will be gone."
Working With Alison Krauss
Joe Elliott - "Well it's fantastic that she's on the record. But because like everything rlse on this album, I never saw her once."
Joe Elliott - "We spoke on the phone. She was dying to do this. We were dying for her to do it. Because it's the mtuual appreciation society."
Joe Elliott - "We love her. She likes us you know. And I talked to her and I said listen we've got a couple of songs that we think you'll really suit."
Joe Elliott - "I'm gonna send them both to ya. You pick which one you want to do. We really don't mind."
Joe Elliott - "And she texted me back within about 30 minutes going OMG I can't pick. I really love them both."
Joe Elliott - "So I just said back to her well you can do both if you want."
Joe Elliott - "And she's like really?. So I said yes. So she did them both. We left her alone."
Joe Elliott - "Just left her with these songs for about three of four weeks. And out of the blue I got this text."
Joe Elliott - "She says I'm about to send you a rough draft of what I've done on This Guitar. And she sent it and I just like melted on the floor when I heard it."
The Freddie Mercury Tribute Show
Joe Elliott - "Yeah absolutely. I mean you've got to remember that for all the right reasons. We had an absolute ball that day."
Joe Elliott - "But we never lost sight of the fact that we were there to celebrate the life of somebody that had passed away."
Joe Elliott - "So there was always a little bit of a melancholic smile on your face. As opposed to like big fist pumpping yeah this is awesome. But there was so many people backstage."
Joe Elliott - "That you were just going oh hello Cindy Crawford. Oh hello Elizabeth Taylor. You know Hi David Bowie."
Joe Elliott - "You know it was just mental. But it was, as I've said many times, in many documentaries. Probably the most thrilling three or four minutes of my entire musical career was when me and Phil got up and did All the Young Dudes with the remaining members of Queen. And Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson and David Bowie."
Joe Elliott - "Doing what is my favourite ever song. So it was great. Elton John was there. We were hanging out with Guns N' Roses. You know it was - I sound like I'm name dropping."
Joe Elliott - "I am. I'm absolutely name dropping. We were hanging out with everybody. And everybody was hanging out with each other. It was just, It was a total celebration and such - can't believe it's 30 years ago. It's crazy."
Last concert attended
Joe Elliott - "That's a really good question. I think the last gig I saw before the pandemic was either The Psychedelic Furs or it was Big Country and The Skids playing together."
Joe Elliott - "I think it may well have been Thge Psychedelic Furs."
The Stadium Tour/Closing Bands
Joe Elliott - "Both of us are. We're taking it in turns. It's 36 shows so it's 18 each you know."
Joe Elliott - "And it's all been worked out very scientifically. it's the same way that we did it with Journey in 2018. Exactly the same principle."
