Joe Elliott - September 2015 Interview Quotes

"It's a call to arms, you know? Rick Savage wrote 80 percent of the song. I wrote the verses, he wrote all the music and the choruses. He came in with it, and we knew it was a classic Def Leppard song. It's that three-minute pop-rock stuff with big chunky guitars and a big chorus. And it has that swaggering, mid-tempo rhythm, like "Sugar," and "Rock of Ages."

"The idea was, we wanted something familiar. I mean, when AC/DC comes back after years away, you're not going to get "Bohemian Rhapsody" from 'em, you know? And you don't want it, either — you want "Back in Black," or something like it. For us, this is what we do. And it's something we enjoy doing."

Phil Collen - September 2015 Interview Quotes

"The lead-off single, but it was actually one of the last tracks in the sessions. That was a Rick Savage song he’d had floating around for a while, but it was very pop-orientated. When we started recording, the guitars were a little lightweight. We decided they needed to be way more aggressive and nasty. So that was the second coat of paint, if you like – we replaced some of the stuff we’d done earlier and just made it way more violent and aggressive."

"We're really pleased with the way it come out. We went so overboard on the backing vocals."

Joe Elliott - October 2015 Interview Quotes

"It's one of those songs when we kind of approached the way we were doing stuff and playing each other our ideas. We'd kind of giggle and smile and go that sounds like us you know. And it's like well yeah it does and once we'd established the fact that we didn't care. And then it's like you know we are who we are. We're not afraid of it. We're not embarrassed by it. We write great four minute pop rock stuff. Big choruses and anthemic hooks and that stuff. That's what we do. So we weren't gonna avoid doing it just because we'd done it in the past."

"But at the same time we also did spread our wings out a little bit. And this is no brother or sister song to that song on the album anywhere. There's nothing sounds like it. So it does have the diversity that we were looking for. So when you actually get deep into record that there's all sorts of influences coming out. From our childhood you know. Queen, Bowie, The Faces, Zeppelin, The Beatles. You can hear little snippets. Whereas in the past we might have tried to disguise that. We just let it come oozing out on this record because it was just the freedom of like going, it doesn't matter, it's fine. This is who we are, why try and pretend we're not you know. So there's everything that you can imagine on this record."

Phil Collen - November 2015 Interview Quotes

"And a great example is the song "Let's Go". It was called "Do You Really Want to Do This Now?" originally and it was really poppy."

Vivian Campbell - November 2015 Interview Quote

"Let's Go is Sugar 2.0. It was kind of genetically engineered that way you know. So it's alright to rip yourself off I suppose."

Joe Elliott - November 2015 Interview Quotes

At the end of the day it's classic Leppard. It's got that Let's Get Rocked, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Rock Of Ages anthemic, stadium rock thing about it. Even the song Undefeated off the Mirrorball record; it's the same kind of thing. It's one of those songs when you hear it you, you go this would sound great in Madison Square Garden or Rod Laver Arena, in these big iconic buildings all round the world. It's one of those songs that leaps out. And it is classic Leppard. We weren't trying to reinvent the wheel. Sav, our bass player Rick Savage, came up with that song and we knew it sounded like an echo of our past and we were more than happy to do that."

"What we did on that one song was go into a territory that we've been in before which is kind of slow, sexy, groovy thing with the big anthemic chorus, huge guitars, big drums; the usual thing that Leppard is renowned for and that our fans really enjoy. So we're not going to deny ourselves the opportunity to write a song like that, but it's just one of 14 and everything else on the record doesn't sound like that one song. So we were more than happy to put all our eggs in one basket on that particular song, in that direction."
