Kansas City/Bonner Springs, KS - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Jan Bennett

The show last night was fantastic. I'm always so excited to go, but then I'm sad because it's over. I guess there's just no pleasing some people, huh?

The evening was very warm, with no air stirring, and a packed house. I don't know if the place was sold out, but it had to have come damn close. We went up into the lawn during one of the breaks, and there was not an empty spot up there, they were crammed in, even on the pathways.

Foreigner played first. They were good. Their new singer (at least he's new to me) did a good job. Styx, of course, was awesome. I swear Tommy Shaw just doesn't look like he ever gets any older.

We sat in the 5th row, about five or six seats from the catwalk, which ended about 9th or 10th row. I thought these seats were great, as we were close enough to the stage to see everything, and close enough to the end of the catwalk to see that really well too. The only thing I didn't like about it was when Joe would come down to the end of the runway to sing, and the rest of the guys would be up on the stage. I didn't know which I should watch! What a dilemma eh?

They opened with a short version of Rocket. I don't like this song as an opener as well as I do Let's Get Rocked, but hey, I'm certainly not complaining. However the guys want to arrange their music is fine with me.

All of the band (except Rick, of course) came down to the end of the runway to do Two Steps Behind. They stood kind of with their backs to each other so everyone could see them. Bringin' On the Heartbreak was so good, starting out acoustically, and then going big at the end of the song. Joe broke a string during Two Steps Behind, and BOTH was delayed a minute, as there was also some technical problem. And I think it was during BOTH that some girl made it up on stage as Joe was on the runway and she grabbed him. I don't think he was real pleased about that.

All the guys looked good. Phil and Vivian were shirtless for most of the night (whoo-hoo)! Joe, of course, looked fantastic. And, yes, his hair was always down in his face. Sav looked like he was having a little more trouble adjusting to the heat than the rest of the guys, poor thing. They all sounded great tho, and looked great too.

I really loved the addition of Excitable to the setlist. And shame on me, but I didn't know the songs from High N Dry that they played. I still enjoyed them tho. I can never make up my mind which song is my favorite live. Of course, everyone went crazy when they played Sugar, but Animal always gets a good crowd reaction too, as does Armageddon It. But I might have to say I liked Hysteria best. I've always loved that song and it still awes me to hear it played live.

All in all, it was a great night. I loved Rock of Ages as the encore. The audience started singing the song before they were supposed to and that was kind of funny. As usual, the time went by way too fast. I always tell myself I'm going to remember every moment, but it all seems to go by in a blur. A very nice blur.
