Blackfoot/>Def Leppard @ Dane County Coliseum By Wisconsin State Journal
Neither Blackfoot nor opening act Def Leppard offered much of anything new to the almost 4,000 witnesses at the Dane County Coliseum Wednesday night.
But then, neither would Frank Sinatra.
Def Leppard is a group pf youthful graduates from the heavy metal school.
The 45 minute slot it filled was rife with leaden guitar licks and high-ended vocals.
Revealing influences that the band makes no effort to hide.
Though their latest album displays some degree of control, Leppard let out all the stops for their set.
In spite of vocal monitor inefficiencies that sent lead singer Joe Elliott into a bit of a funk after the show, the band executed a support act's prime responsibility - working the crowd up.
With unbridled energy and a sincerity that clicked.
This crowd wasn't looking for inspiration, it wanted impact.
Def Leppard id the job but fell short of fulfilling their promise.
Fortunately, one show does not a career make.
