Ozzy Osbourne/Def Leppard @ Mesker Music Theatre By Evansville Courier & Press
Both the Blizzard Of Ozz and Def Leppard played their embalmed, early-1970s power rock with such a thorough lack of imagination and drive that vapidity seemed to take on a new dimension.
Yet the audience loved them, clapping, screaming, raising fists and jamming with both groups song after song.
Sure, the kids were there simply to have a good time, but can listening to mindless power chords and strained vocals really be that good of a time?.
Def Leppard opened the festivities with 'On Through The Night' which set the tone for the evening perfectly.
The sound was indistinguishable from AC/DC or, for that matter, most any other heavy metal band.
With screeched vocals and an overextended and underplayed guitar solo.
They followed 'Night' with a few identically sounding songs.
Including 'Another Hit And Run' which seems like a fair enough description of their act.
And finished with High 'N' Dry', the title song from the group's latest album into which each member of the band undoubtedly pumped every watt of power at his fingertips.
The group played utterly unrewarding music, but it did start the concert on time, no mean thing nowadays.
