19 Years Ago DEF LEPPARD's Long Long Way To Go #40 In UK Chart

Def Leppard 2003. Def Leppard 2003

Def Leppard's classic single Long Long Way To Go became their last UK Top 40 hit on this day in 2003.

The second single to be released from the 'X/Ten' album.

It was released on 14th April 2003 six weeks after the band's UK/Ireland tour.

Flyers advertising the single were left on the seats at the 20th February show in Sheffield at Hallam FM Arena.

The song reached Number 40 in the UK charts on 26th April and was the last time the band entered the Top 40. It fell down to Number 75 the week after and then out of the Top 100.

This followed on from the album's first single 'Now' which had reached Number 23 in August 2002.

Only two of the 10 album releases in the UK since this time have been all original studio albums with none of the singles making the Top 40.

The song was co-written by songwriters Wayne Hector and Steve Robson. The first single released by the band as an original but written by someone else.

1994's 'Action' single being a cover of an old song by The Sweet.

The first and only DVD Single to be released by the band containing the UK version of the promo video and two new original B Sides songs - '10 X Bigger Than Love' and 'Gimme A Job'.

Vivian Campbell - 2004 Best Of Quote

"We weren’t even looking for outside songs. But it was so emotive. I’m glad that it’s finally getting it’s day in the sun. It’s really, really strong. It’s one of the best vocal performances that Joe has ever given. We all spent a lot of time on it. And I think it shows."

"Joe plays the solo, nothing to do with us!." (Gimme A Job)."
