Show Intro

"Greetings one and all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the magnificent Planet Rock. Always a pleasure to be with you. We've got 60 minutes to plow through some fantastic tunes. Starting off tonight with Van Halen."

Van Halen

"I gotta say I was a little concerned the other day when I read that David Lee Roth has decided to retire completely from the music industry. Albeit he does have some shows in Las Vegas to finish as far ahead as even January. But he's pretty much announced he's done. And the announcement was a little kind of vague but it was also a bit concerning because it's almost like he was hinting at something he wasn't telling us So let's just hope fingers crossed that his health is OK. Especially after we lost Eddie Van Halen not so long ago. And enjoy your retirement David Lee Roth because you've entertained us for many many years. There from 1980's Women And Children First album we just heard Van Halen with And The Cradle Will Rock."

Mick Jagger

"Now here's a couple of guys that I would wager are never ever gonna retire. Featuring the star of last week's show Mr. Dave Grohl. This is Sir Mick Jagger."

"And before that the most recent solo piece of work from Mr. Mick Jagger. All about lockdown, what else. Fantastic song actually. Features Dave Grohl playing every instrument except of course lead vocals and some rhythm guitar. The song is Eazy Sleazy."

Alice Cooper

"Another guy who's retirement would appear to be on the far off horizon. The mighty Coop. Yes 1971. Alice Cooper from that fantastic album that is Killer with You Drive Me Nervous."

Billy Squier

Now when I set out to do this show I really didn't have retirement in mind as a theme but it just so happens by absolute coincidence that they keep coming. Now this next artist that we're about to hear. Did kind of semi retire having sold millions and millions of albums and millions and millions of tickets. All the way through the early 80s. He became a gardener in central park in New York. Ladies and gentleman I give you Billy Squier.

"And before that we heard Billy Squier from 1982. The album Don't Say No. The song we heard In The Dark."

Roger Taylor

"Well he's not gonna retire any time soon is he because he's got a brand new solo album out. And a British tour lined up. He is Roger Taylor. Best known of course as the drummer in Queen. But his output as a solo artist actually outweighs his output with Queen. He's done so many, so many solo albums. His latest album is called Outsider. The song that we just heard one of two songs with the same tile. Although they're very different songs. This is the purple version of Gangsters Are Running This World."

"Right enough of this retirement nonsense. Coming up a love story from the penthouse tapes of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"And before that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band from 1976. The album The Penthouse Tapes. The song a fantastic cover of the Jethro Tull song Love Story."

St. Vincent

"Taken from the album Blacklist recently released. it's a 53 track compilation of Metallica covers by such diverse artists as Miley Cyrus and Elton John. That was St. Vincent. It was also the B-Side of her Record Store Day single. The A-Side being Piggy by Nine Inch Nails. The song is of course Sad But True."

David Bowie

"OK so everything Hunky Dory out there?. Well, apparently in David Bowie land it's a bit sticky under foot."

"And before that from 1971 we heard David Bowie from arguably one of his greatest ever albums. The Ken Scott produced Hunky Dory. We heard Quicksand."

Duff McKagan

"Two great and mostly acoustic tunes there folks. We just heard from a couple of years ago Duff McKagan. Title track from his album Tenderness."

The Stranglers

"Right then here delving into some rather dark matters are The Stranglers."

"And before that The Stranglers from their latest album Dark Matters. Recorded during lock down and sadly Dave Greenfield the keyboard player whose such an integral part of their sound passed away during the making of that album. So he's on the album but there's a few songs he's not on. One of them actually being a tribute to him. So it's a beautifully constructed piece of work. the song we heard the opening track Water.

"They really did have some top tunes that band didn't they. What a great band they were. All the way from Birmingham featuring the likes of Bev Bevan, Trevor Burton and of course the incredibly and insanely talented Mr. Roy Wood. The album is The Best Of The Move. It's a must have album. The song we heard China Town."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. i shall be back with you guess when and guess where. Yes exactly the same place at exactly the same time next week."

"So until then I'm gonna leave you with this. From the 1974 album Country Life. This is the mighty Roxy Music with All I Want Is You. Until next week see ya!."
