Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Always a pleasure to be with you. On a bit of a sabbatical right now. It's great, feet up, having a bit of a rest during the summer. Back to work again in November down in Japan and then onto Australia. But for now let's just concentrate on this next sixty minutes or so. This title is a bit of an oxymoron, because this song is a stonker. This is The Rolling Stones."

The Rolling Stones

"Great read this week that they've possibly put an advert. Put a very kind of clandestine advert in the papers advertising Hackney Diamonds. Which could be the title of the new Rolling Stones album. Who knows. A nice bit of play in the press. But that is the latest song that they ever put out. 2012 I think it was on the Grrr. collection as one of two new songs. And far from what the title suggests. It is Doom And Gloom. Or rather, it isn't."

Thin Lizzy

"And talking of doom and gloom. This is also a bit of a dark title. This is Thin Lizzy."

"And before that we heard Thin Lizzy. Wonderful stuff from the album Johnny The Fox with Massacre."

Badfinger

"Wonderful stuff. So good in fact that it's one of the songs that Def Leppard chose to do on the covers album that was actually picked by all five members of the band. And every single one of us suggested we should do it because we love the song so much. That's the original from way back in 1970. From an album called No Dice it is Badfinger with No Matter What."

Joe Walsh

"Now here's a song that starts off with some fantastic primal screaming from the legend that is Joe Walsh."

"And before that we heard Joe Walsh from an album called The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get. Yes, don't ask I've no idea. The song we heard, including some incredibly primal screaming at the introduction of it, Meadows."

Aerosmith

"I thought I'd play you some live Aerosmith this week 'cause I've been talking to a few of my friends over the last few days about what a wonderful live band they are. Def Leppard did some shows with Aerosmith in South America about six years ago. And they were absolutely stunning to watch. Every night they just put on a slightly different show. It was very rock and roll indeed. And there from the Classics Live album we heard Train Kept A Rollin'. Originally done by The Yardbirds."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up, But here we are with the Foo Fighters."

Foo Fighters

"And before that have you ever heard a song that goes so distorted at the end. I haven't. But god bless 'em for being who they are. They are the Foo Fighters from their latest album But Here We Are with The Teacher."

Robbie Robertson

"Yep I'm still on a bit of a Robbie Robertson trip having read about his sad passing just a week and a half ago or so. I've been blasting through his solo work for the last few days and I came across this one. I've not heard it for such a long time. And it's a case of guess the guests and it's not too difficult is it on that one. It is of course U2. The album Robbie Robertson 1987. The song Sweet Fire Of Love."

The Clash

"Here's another band that love their distortion. Albeit a little more controlled. This is The Clash."

"And before that we heard The Clash from their debut album back in 1977. With Complete Control."

Ramones

"One of the first if not the first 12 inch single that I ever bought back in 1976. That is the Ramones. Taken there from a collection called Mania. It is Sheena Is A Punk Rocker. Fantastic stuff."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. But hey you knew that already. And don't forget This Is How I Roll is available on Planet Rock premium. 24/7. 365.

"So until next week I shall leave you with this. Bit of a laugh. This, from The Music Box E.P.. It was released in 2019 on Record Store Day, is the Down 'n' Outz with our version of the first hit that Roxy Music ever had back in 1972. This is Virginia Plain. Until next week see ya!."
