Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Always a pleasure to be with you. I've got tonight a very eclectic collection of songs. It's all over the show. Which is how I like my show to be. A bit of this, a bit of that and a bit of the other. Starting off with the Sex Pistols."

Sex Pistols

"Well depending on your location the rain it raineth like a rainy thing. So I doubt they'll be many holidays in the sun anytime soon. But we can always keep our fingers crossed. From the immortal 1977 Never Mind The Bollocks album that was the Sex Pistols and Holiday In The Sun."

AC/DC

"Now this next crowd of reprobates started making a name for themselves about the same time as the Punk explosion in the UK. But through a few lineup changes and many many albums later they're still making a hell of a noise. This is AC/DC."

"And before that we heard brand new AC/DC. I say brand new it's about 7 or 8 months old now. But it's their most recent album and it's called Power Up. And god bless Johnno for being back in the band. We just heard Shot In The Dark."

UFO

"Another band that gave us all hope back in about 1977/78 when the Punk movement was starting to fizzle out and the New Romantics were starting to fizzle in. We just heard UFO there from their 1977 album. The title track Lights Out. Great song."

Doctors Of Madness

"So from a couple of bands that we would maybe call straight rock and roll to something a little more left field. Starting off with the Doctors Of Madness."

"And before that we heard the Doctors Of Madness from their debut album in 1976. Late Night Movies, All Night Brain Storms with the brilliant bit of work called Billy Watch Out."

Lemon Twigs

"If you're a regular listener you may have heard me play that before. It is may favourite track from the album. The band are the Lemon Twigs. The album is Songs For The General Public. And the song is called, get this, No One Holds You Closer Than The One You Haven't Met.Alrighty then.

Joe Elliott/Phil Collen

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, we're gonna celebrate the music of a gentleman who was taken way too soon 29 years ago this week."

Mick Ronson

"And before that from the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert. And take a bow Phil Collen. The guitar solo. Absolutely brought Maggie Ronson, Mick's sister and Suzie his widow to tears. He nailed it did Phil. Superb stuff. That's - we were actually on the night called The Spiders From Mars. But it was really Trevor Bolder and Woody Woodmansey plus guests. It was Phil Lanzon from Uriah Heep on keyboards. Occasionally Bill Nelson from Be Bop Deluxe. Came in and out on the performance. Phil played on a few songs. Most of the guitar work was handled by Billy Rankin. Once of the Sensational Alex Harbey Band and Nazareth. That is our on the night version of the Ziggy Stardust album classic Moonage Daydream."

"What an absolutely beautiful and haunting piece of work that is by the late great Mick Ronson. From his second solo album in 1975. Play Don't Worry. I can't believe it's 29 years ago on the 29th April since he passed away. He'd been suffering from cancer for a very long time but he put up a great fight and managed to get all the recording finished for an album that would come out posthumously called Heaven And Hull. But there as I said from his second solo album. The Empty Bed. Great bit of work."

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"Right then here's a couple of bonkerzoid instrumentals. Starting off with, believe it or not, the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."

"And before that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band who made an album once without Alex. So they managed to keep it quiet. They managed to do it again on the album that came out after they split up sadly. The album is Rock Drill. The song a fantastic rework of the theme tune to the original movie of King Kong."

Rockestra

"Now that is credited to Paul McCartney but as you can tell from the cacophony of sound that you've just heard many many musicians were involved in that particular performance. It's from an album called Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea. And it's led by Paul MacCartney but it featured the likes of Steve Holly who was Wings' drummer at the time. And who plays with Ian Hunter these days. Playing drums alongside John Bonham from Led Zeppelin. I believe John Paul Jones was involved. Pete Townshend was one of maybe one of about six guitarists that played on that particular performance of a song originally on the Back To The Egg album. It is Rockestra Theme."

Slade

"So from a big screen monster to a big rock monster. This is Slade."

"And before that Slade. The mighty Slade. From their collection Come On Feel The Hits. We heard the song Know Who You Are."

Buffalo Springfield

"Sampled numerous times over the years because ya can't beat a good harmonic can ya. That is Buffalo Springfield from their eponymously titled debut album in 1968 I believe it was. The song For What It's Worth."

Show Outro

"So there you go folks that's about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then I shall leave you with this. And hope that you have one. This from Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. The mono version. This is the Small faces with Lazy Sunday. Until next week see ya."
